my bot's first post of a MIRI + NIRCam data. As @keflavich.bsky.social described, it is cheaper to point the two instruments this way and that to take a picture at the same time, this results in a messy naming scheme where the same area is covered by multiple target names. >

I wrote a script for matching between MIRI to NIRCam galactic center images that have a different target name. Here for example is MIRI GC_46and NIRCam GC_61. The list of matches is here: github.com/yuval-harpaz... If all goes well we will get bot announcements for newly released sets.

JWST-GC program update: we have MIRI coverage of ~half of the field that NIRCAM covers. We use MIRI in 'coordinated parallel' mode, which means we get MIRI data _almost_ for free when we take NIRCAM images. We can make 3-color images for those few regions

Lensed galaxy [BHF2019] A370 2356, near Abell 370, by JWST 🔭 , NIRCam. This is not the first visit to this region, but always pretty.
A James Webb Space Telescope image centered on a strong gravitational lens in the galaxy cluster Abell 370. Near the upper center, a distant background galaxy is dramatically distorted into a bright orange arc that wraps around the core of a massive foreground elliptical galaxy. The lensed galaxy shows a compact, glowing nucleus embedded within a curved ring of star-forming regions, while a faint, stretched tail extends to the left, tracing the effects of the cluster's gravity. Below the arc, two large foreground elliptical galaxies dominate the scene as smooth, bright white ovals with diffuse halos.

1/11 Imagine having a detailed map of the youngest & hottest stars in the #MilkyWay — the ones that form & die within just a few million years. A research team (Quintana et al.) has recently completed exactly that using Gaia DR3 data, reaching out to 2 kpc (~ 6,520 ly) from the Sun.🔭⚛️🧪 #galactic
Here’s how OB-type stars are spread across our local Milky Way, out to 2 kpc from the Sun.
The red and pink patches reveal the denser concentrations of these young stars. Among the standout features are the Sagittarius-Carina arm, Cepheus Spur, the big empty Perseus Gap, and associations such as Cyg OB2 and Ori OB1.

Another visualisation of JWST🔭 data from "Mab area", in the vicinity of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. Here we see older light from 2024 summer in red, newer light reaching us on Dec 2024 as green, and Jul 2025 as blue. Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI.
chatGPT:
A false-color James Webb Space Telescope image of light echoes surrounding the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. Broad, translucent ribbons of dust sweep diagonally from the upper left to the lower right, displaying a vivid rainbow of colors. Unlike a natural-color image, the colors encode time: red marks light that reached the telescope earlier, while green and blue indicate progressively later-arriving light. This creates layered bands that trace the outward motion of the supernova's light pulse as it illuminates interstellar dust at different distances.
