One of the most interesting biographies I discovered during my #DecolonisingChemistry project for the @chemistryatyork.bsky.social curriculum was that of Alice Ball a black chemist, whose leprosy treatment, using carbonyl chemistry to build on traditional medicine, was stolen by a male colleague.
Portrait of Alice Ball including images of the Chaulmoogra plant and its conversion into a leprosy treatment.

Scientists have developed a nanomaterial that leverages the body’s own healing process to stimulate new bone growth. So far tested in rats, the material is biocompatible and generates a microenvironment that is conducive for regenerative growth: cen.acs.org/materials/na... #chemsky 🧪
This nanomaterial stimulates the body’s bone-growing process.
If successful, it could help treat cleft lip and palates earlier in life.

a golden retriever trots along a cement pathway outside with a city skyline in the distance. his front left paw is suspended in the air as he has been caught mid-step. he looks over at the camera with a little grin. he's holding a long leafy branch in his mouth. can't believe his luck at finding this razzle dazzle stick.

Reversible self-assembly of polymeric solid electrolyte enables lithium battery recycling
Nature Chemistry, Published online: 28 May 2026; doi:10.1038/s41557-026-02154-1Solid-state batteries offer safe high-energy storage but are difficult to recycle. Now, a supramolecular electrolyte that forms a solid during operation and reverts to molecules afterwards combines electrochemical performance and recoverability — a combination of properties rarely achieved in battery technology.
