Norway Pine hat in what is actually a midnight blue tweed (don't let the bad lighting convince you it's purple). In related news, my fingertips hurt. Ah, knitted cables...
A knitted hat with a folded ribbed brim and alternating cable and moss stitch panels around the crown sitting on a stone counter. The remaining yarn is sitting beside the hat, as are 3 double pointed knitting needles. The hat looks tweedy purplish blue because of the lighting, but is actually a tweedy dark blue/black.

Passed a Dunkin Donuts offering Tiramisu-flavored drinks, and I have to wonder at how far coffee has strayed that there are now special edition/seasonal coffee-flavored coffees. Feels like ordering an espresso martini latte (which is just a vodka latte with plausible deniability).

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

I'm sure it's a funny article, but as a knitter I was immediately distracted by the sweater (gorgeous color!) and then by wondering if one of the cables was messed up. Just knitting things 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Behold! I have created a scrungly tube! At some point this will be blocked into a flat rectangular scarf/stole, because a scrungly tube was not the intended result.

I don't know what it is, but I have been in MULTIPLE trainings lately where it feels like the instructors started somewhere in the middle of the course material, and completely misunderstood who their audience was or the overall purpose of the training.

Nerd pet peeve: when people arrange things that have NO INHERANT PERIODICITY into a "periodic table" Vegetables are not periodic! Logical fallacies are not periodic!!! You cannot create a periodic table with them!!! The structure of your table reveals nothing!!! *Muffled scream*

Someone needs to tell the construction site next door about the joys of Labor Day (and also Saturdays while they're at it). Someone ALSO needs to tell the beekeepers that have hives on the wooded field that unexpectedly became an active construction site last week to come get their beeeeeeees.

Currently stranded on what I am calling "scarf isthmus" (the middle bit of a scarf with patterned bits on either end) since "sleeve island" doesn't really apply here. It's not a question of size *eyebrow waggle 😏*, except it actually is...I need 40" on the center section and only have 18" so far.

Today's amusing synchronicity: I'm still in the part of the Behind the Bastards podcast back-catalog where Robert is advocating nuking the Great Lakes (late 2022), at the same time that US MapWars 2026 (Lake Ontario edition) is in active play. Man needs to quit playing with the ball of prophecy. 🫠

I have been "entertaining" myself during my confinement by using up the very very expired COVID tests in my cabinet to monitor my status, and am annoyed to still be testing positive on day 9 from first test/day 11 since start of symptoms. *sigh* (yes, I'm verifying with unexpired tests in between)

And this is why "is it raining in Houston?" is a pointless and silly question.
A weather radar map of the greater Houston area showing mostly clear skies, except for one small spot of heavy rain/lightning that has apparently displeased the weather gods at this particular time.

Heads up for #ACSFall2026 attendees. Symptomatic as of late Wednesday evening, masking as of Thursday (and self-isolated as of Thurs mid-morning). Poor choice on my part to attend unmasked, kudos to everyone who made a better decision.
A combined flu A/B and COVID test cartridge dated August 28, 2026, 20:45. Both control stripes are showing as they should, but there are no stripe indicating flu. The COVID stripe, however, is VERY YES.

I have some Thoughts about the ACS fall conference, but the fact that *ACS* is basically saying it's all over on Wednesday despite a full morning of talks on Thursday is insulting to the Thursday presenters.

I realize that reading from a teleprompter is a real skill and not everyone has it, but I really thought people who do a lot of public speaking would be better at reading out loud. It's like my high school drama class all over again.

The absence of Canadian institutional logos at the ACS poster sessions this week has been notable, at least to my eyes. Not at all surprising under the current circumstances, but as a misplaced Canadian, I miss my people (and their science). ❤️‍🩹

I realize I'm two glasses of wine on a mostly empty stomach in, but my reflex reaction on seeing posters with the "old" ACS logo (insignia) is "I KNOW THOSE PEOPLE!" regardless of affiliation or poster topic. Anecdata, etc. but I'm just saying... 👀

I don't know how we got from Food Court to "Food Hall", but I feel like a wing restaurant that serves pizza, an intermittently open taco stand, and a bar doesn't really deserve either of those names. The chemistry-themed gin drink is tasty, though.
