You are tired, (I think) Of the always puzzle of living and doing; And so am I. Come with me, then, And we'll leave it far and far away-- (Only you and I, understand!) You have played, (I think) And broke the toys you were fondest of, And are a little tired now; - E.E.Cummings #Poetry 💙📚👀
You are tired, (I think) Of the always puzzle of living and doing; And so am I.

Come with me, then, And we'll leave it far and far away--(Only you and I, understand!)

You have played, (I think) And broke the toys you were fondest of, And are a little tired now; Tired of things that break, and--Just tired. So am I.

But I come with a dream in my eyes tonight, And I knock with a rose at the hopeless gate of your heart--

Open to me! For I will show you the places Nobody knows, And, if you like, The perfect places of Sleep.

Make something wondrous. I tell you no matter what you have done to your one life, you wake one day in the ripe air of September and you see the light beneath a door in autumn and you let it come, the fear behind the other fears, and you get to have a different, different childhood #Poetry 💙📚👀
Note Found in Van Gogh's Left Breast Pocket

I am going into the sunflowers now. Finally, finally, finally, I get to be a wild thing I do not not love. At last I get to smell the farthest river, to love something beyond the weathered door.

Brother, I am done now, but you are not. Stay awake. Make something wondrous. I tell you no matter what you have done to your one life, you wake one day in the ripe air of September and you see the light beneath a door in autumn and you let it come, the fear behind the other fears, and you get to have a different, different childhood, and the fences of your own wild heart break open, and dreamer you don't need to keep the dead safe inside your body anymore.

A Person Protests to Fate

Jane Hirshfield

A person protests to fate:

"The things you have caused me most to want are those that furthest elude me."

Fate nods.

Fate is sympathetic.

To tie the shoes, button a shirt, are triumphs for only the very young, the very old.

During the long middle:

conjugating a rivet

mastering tango

training the cat to stay off the table preserving a single moment longer than this one continuing to wake whatever has happened the day before

I WISH I COULD SAY I FOUND POETRY

but it found me washed up on the back porch in winter.

Bone tired. Even the deer had enough of the cold. It let itself inside. Grabbed me by the waist. Took me to the water. Had me collect each piece of my voice like fragments of sea glass buried in the stones. It claimed me, then courted me. Its lines waking me in my sleep. It washed my sheets. Brought me flowers. Showed me its gorgeous teeth. Now I see it in my coffee. In the strands of my mother's hair. I find it as I pump gas at the station on Olive Street. It has pried my eyes open and won't let them shut.

And some things have the nerve to be getting started, clusters of tomatoes, stands of late lilies-optimism of the great stalks-imperial gold and silver: but why start anything so close to the end? Tomatoes that will never ripen, lilies winter will kill, that won't come back in spring. #Poetry 💙📚👀
"Vespers (End of August)" by Louise Glück

End of August. Heat like a tent over John's garden. And some things have the nerve to be getting started, clusters of tomatoes, stands of late lilies-optimism of the great stalks-imperial gold and silver: but why start anything so close to the end? Tomatoes that will never ripen, lilies winter will kill, that won't come back in spring. Or are you thinking I spend too much time looking ahead, like an old woman wearing sweaters in summer; are you saying I can flourish, having no hope of enduring? Blaze of the red cheek, glory of the open throat, white, spotted with crimson.

What can I say that I have not said before? So I'll say it again. The leaf has a song in it. Stone is the face of patience. Inside the river there is an unfinishable story and you are somewhere in it and it will never end until all ends. - Mary Oliver #Poetry 💙📚👀
"What can I say that I have not said before?

So I'll say it again.

The leaf has a song in it.

Stone is the face of patience.

Inside the river there is an unfinishable story and you are somewhere in it and it will never end until all ends.

Take your busy heart to the art museum and the chamber of commerce but take it also to the forest. The song you heard singing in the leaf

when you were a child is singing still.

I am of years lived, so far, seventy-four, and the leaf is singing still.

BY JAMES BALDWIN

In a strange house, a strange bed in a strange town, a very strange me is waiting for you.

Just as the birds above our heads circling are singing, knowing that, in what lies before them, the always unknown passage, wind, water, air, the failing light the failing night the blinding sun they must get the journey done. Listen.

They have wings and voices are making choices are using what they have. They are aware that, on long journeys, each bears the other, whirring, stirring love occuring

Do not stand By my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep- I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. - Clare Herner #Poetry 💙📚👀
Kansas native Clare Harner (1909-1977) first published "Immortality" in the December 1934 issue of poetry magazine The Gypsy[1] and was reprinted in their February 1935 issue:

Do not stand By my grave, and weep.

I am not there,

I do not sleep-

I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning's hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand By my grave, and cry-

I am not there,

I did not die.

Small talk is not for me.

Give me big talk, deep talk, sun, moon, and stars talk.

Tell me what finds you at 3 a.m. when your ghosts come asking questions. Tell me what gets you up anyway, the flicker you follow, the dream you still refuse to set down.

Give me words shaped by oceans, by valleys, by the salt of what it costs to be human.

Paint the sky with your words; let your whole body smile. Show up in your holiday shimmer, your garlands, your glow, all sparkle and shine, but also your grit, your honest, trembling truth.

Come exactly as you are. Just, please, leave your small talk at the door. Life is too short for anything less than real.

Unborn ones, take nothing for granted. Not nectar, not thirst. May your lives be uneclipsed, your failures be passing. May you have your portions of beauty, of grief, in a garden whose plants and birds I cannot imagine. - Jane Hirshfield #Poetry 💙📚👀
I speak with the future. by Jane Hirshfield

We sit on our skeletons' bones. We hear with our skeletons' bones. We speak of beauty by moving our jaws and our teeth.

The original meaning of Paradise: a place, a walled garden. Our lives, our stories, this hour inside one. A staircase from Piranesi. A hummingbird drinking.

Outside it, vanishing species and rivers. Outside it, Nanjing, Ninevah, Dresden.

Outside it, Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar, Kyiv. Here.

The world starts and ends, starts, ends, ends again, restarts.

A kalpa is brief, and wall-less.

Unborn ones, take nothing for granted.

Not nectar, not thirst.

May your lives be uneclipsed, your failures be passing.

May you have your portions of beauty, of grief, in a garden whose plants and birds I cannot imagine.

ALL THAT'S REQUIRED OF YOU

Did you know there will be poppies again this year? It's true. I've seen their muted green fractals stockpiling sunlight, distilling it down to its purest essence before igniting into slow motion fireworks.

In the end, isn't this all that's required of you?

To drink in what you love, to concentrate it in the crucible of your body, and, finally, to bloom.

Any Morning William Stafford

Just lying on the couch and being happy. Only humming a little, the quiet sound in the head. Trouble is busy elsewhere at the moment, it has so much to do in the world.

People who might judge are mostly asleep; they can't monitor you all the time, and sometimes they forget. When dawn flows over the hedge you can get up and act busy.

Little corners like this, pieces of Heaven left lying around, can be picked up and saved. People won't even see that you have them, they are so light and easy to hide.

Later in the day you can act like the others. You can shake your head. You can frown.

And for the first time then For the first time this year, I felt reborn again, I knew love's presence near.

Love distant, love detached And strangely without weight, Was with me in the night When everyone had gone And the garland of pure light Stayed on, stayed on.

Unrequited By Sachi

I trench through frozen dirt and scorching heat, carving deep channels to lay the irrigation pipes, hauling water to ensure every stem survives. I bleed into the soil, yet all these flowers offer in return is the bite of thorns dragging across my skin, their tangled roots strangling the work I buried. Yet when they finally open, I look at the raised scars on my palms without regret. I touch them with joy, knowing no devotion spent is ever wasted And You, like the flower, wearing petals, I nearly died to grow, never once asking whose blood watered your roots I cheer for you with joy For I know no love spent is ever wasted

To the Young Who Want to Die

Sit down. Inhale. Exhale.

The gun will wait. The lake will wait.

The tall gall in the small seductive vial will wait will wait:

will wait a week: will wait through April.

You do not have to die this certain day.

Death will abide, will pamper your postponement. I assure you death will wait. Death has a lot of time. Death can attend to you tomorrow. Or next week. Death is

just down the street; is most obliging neighbor;

can meet you any moment.

You need not die today.

Stay here-through pout or pain or peskyness.

Stay here. See what the news is going to be tomorrow.

Graves grow no green that you can use. Remember, green's your color. You are Spring.

In this immeasurable darkness, be the power that rounds your senses in their magic ring, the sense of their mysterious encounter. And if the earthly no longer knows your name, whisper to the silent earth: I'm flowing. To the flashing water say: I am. - Rilke #Poetry 💙📚👀
Silent friend of many distances, feel

by Rainer Maria Rilke

English version by Stephen Mitchell

Original Language German

Silent friend of many distances, feel how your breath enlarges all of space. Let your presence ring out like a bell into the night. What feeds upon your face

grows mighty from the nourishment thus offered. Move through transformation, out and in. What is the deepest loss that you have suffered? If drinking is bitter, change yourself to wine.

In this immeasurable darkness, be the power that rounds your senses in their magic ring, the sense of their mysterious encounter.

And if the earthly no longer knows your name, whisper to the silent earth: I'm flowing. To the flashing water say: I am.

Before you know what kindness really is you must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a moment like salt in a weakened broth. What you held in your hand, what you counted and carefully saved, all this must go so you know how desolate the landscape can be between the regions of kindness #Poetry 💙📚👀
Kindness

Naomi Shihab Nye, 1952

Before you know what kindness really is you must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a moment like salt in a weakened broth.

What you held in your hand, what you counted and carefully saved, all this must go so you know how desolate the landscape can be between the regions of kindness. How you ride and ride thinking the bus will never stop, the passengers eating maize and chicken will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho lies dead by the side of the road. You must see how this could be you, how he too was someone who journeyed through the night with plans and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing. You must wake up with sorrow. You must speak to it till your voice catches the thread of all sorrows and you see the size of the cloth. Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore, only kindness that ties your shoes and sends you out into the day to gaze at bread, only kindness that raises its head from the crowd of the world to say It is I you have been looking for, and then goes with you everywhere like a shadow or a friend.

Be Nobody's Darling by Alice Walker

Be nobody's darling; Be an outcast. Take the contradictions Of your life And wrap around You like a shawl, To parry stones To keep you warm. Watch the people succumb To madness With ample cheer; Let them look askance at you And you askance reply. Be an outcast; Be pleased to walk alone (Uncool) Or line the crowded River beds With other impetuous Fools.

Make a merry gathering On the bank Where thousands perished For brave hurt words They said.

But be nobody's darling; Be an outcast. Qualified to live Among your dead.

Fear not the pain. Let its weight fall back into the earth; for heavy are the mountains, heavy the seas. The trees you planted in childhood have grown too heavy. You cannot bring them along. Give yourselves to the air, to what you cannot hold. - Rilke #Poetry 💙📚👀
Poem: You who let yourselves feel: enter the breathing

by Rainer Maria Rilke

trans. by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy

Part One, Sonnet IV

You who let yourselves feel: enter the breathing that is more than your own. Let it brush your cheeks as it divides and rejoins behind you. Blessed ones, whole ones, you where the heart begins: You are the bow that shoots the arrows and you are the target. Fear not the pain. Let its weight fall back into the earth; for heavy are the mountains, heavy the seas. The trees you planted in childhood have grown too heavy. You cannot bring them along.

Give yourselves to the air, to what you cannot hold.

BY JIMMY SANTIAGO BACA

I am offering this poem to you, since I have nothing else to give. Keep it like a warm coat when winter comes to cover you, or like a pair of thick socks the cold cannot bite through,

I love you,

I have nothing else to give you, so it is a pot full of yellow corn to warm your belly in winter, it is a scarf for your head, to wear over your hair, to tie up around your face,

I love you,

Keep it, treasure this as you would if you were lost, needing direction, in the wilderness life becomes when mature; and in the corner of your drawer, tucked away like a cabin or hogan in dense trees, come knocking, and I will answer, give you directions, and let you warm yourself by this fire, rest by this fire, and make you feel safe

I love you,

It's all I have to give, and all anyone needs to live, and to go on living inside, when the world outside no longer cares if you live or die; remember,

I love you.

Can you touch, My tears, with your hands? I didn't know that songs were this beautiful, Whereas words were this insufficient Before I had this trouble. There is a place, I know; It is possible to say everything; I am pretty close, I can feel; I can't tell. - Orhan Veli Kanik #Poetry 💙📚👀
If I cry, can you hear my voice, In my lines;

My tears, with your hands?

Can you touch, I didn't know that songs were this beautiful, Whereas words were this insufficient Before I had this trouble.

It's been two years of officially selling my handmade things. I might have crossed 100 orders I think. We will never know because my book keeping is just like that. 😂 Also, missed so many of the wonderful reviews I have received.

For When People Ask

Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer

I want a word that means okay and not okay, more than that: a word that means devastated and stunned with joy.

I want the word that says I feel it all all at once.

The heart is not like a songbird singing only one note at a time, more like a Tuvan throat singer

able to sing both a drone and simultaneously two or three harmonics high above it-a sound, the Tuvans say, that gives the impression of wind swirling among rocks.

The heart understands swirl, how the churning of opposite feelings weaves through us like an insistent breeze leads us wordlessly deeper into ourselves, blesses us with paradox.

so we might walk more openly into this world so rife with devastation, this world so ripe with joy.

I lay myself down on the welcoming ground, the earth's spine becoming mine. .... I take refuge in the quiet, and let my burdens go, one by one, until the earth and I both float in the same vast and holy silence. - Danna Faulds #Poetry 💙📚👀
Release

I lay myself down on the welcoming ground, the earth's spine becoming mine.

Peace seeps into heavy limbs and slows my heartbeat to the pace of nature.

I take refuge in the quiet, and let my burdens go, one by one, until the earth and I both float in the same vast and holy silence.

The night I lost you someone pointed me towards the Five Stages of Grief Go that way, they said, it's easy, like learning to climb stairs after the amputation. .... Acceptance. I finally reach it. But something is wrong. Grief is a circular staircase. I have lost you. - Linda Pastan #Poetry 💙📚👀
The night I lost you someone pointed me towards the Five Stages of Grief

Go that way, they said, it's easy, like learning to climb stairs after the amputation. And so I climbed.

Denial was first.

I sat down at breakfast carefully setting the table for two. I passed you the toast-you sat there. I passed you the paper-you hid behind it.

Anger seemed more familiar.

I burned the toast, snatched

the paper and read the headlines myself.

But they mentioned your departure, and so I moved on to Bargaining. What could I exchange

for you? The silence

after storms? My typing fingers?

Before I could decide, Depression

came puffing up, a poor relation its suitcase tied together with string. In the suitcase were bandages for the eyes and bottles of sleep. I slid all the way down the stairs feeling nothing.

And all the time Hope flashed on and off in defective neon.

Hope was a signpost pointing straight in the air.

Hope was my uncle's middle name,

he died of it.

After a year I am still climbing, though my feet slip on your stone face.

The treeline

has long since disappeared;

green is a color

I have forgotten.

But now I see what I am climbing

towards: Acceptance

written in capital letters, a special headline:

Acceptance

its name is in lights.

I struggle on, waving and shouting.

Below, my whole life spreads its surf, all the landscapes I've ever known

or dreamed of. Below

a fish jumps: the pulse in your neck.

Acceptance. I finally reach it.

But something is wrong.

Grief is a circular staircase.

I have lost you.

Even this late it happens: the coming of love, the coming of light. You wake and the candles are lit as if by themselves, stars gather, dreams pour into your pillows, sending up warm bouquets of air. Even this late the bones of the body shine and tomorrow's dust flares into breath. #Poetry 💙📚👀

Oh, My Coffee Is Cold I brewed it warm this morning the way I like my breath, slow and still. But then my mind began its wandering ... By the time I returned to the present the aroma had lost its tenderness and in my hand was the proof how thoughts can steal the joy of small things. #Poetry 💙📚👀
Oh, My Coffee Is Cold

I brewed it warm this morning the way I like my breath, slow and still. But then my mind began its wandering through doors that never existed.

I replayed words I never said rewrote scenes that didn't need mending. While the cup sat there, turning dead its warmth quietly descending.

By the time I returned to the present the aroma had lost its tenderness and in my hand was the proof how thoughts can steal the joy of small things.

Oh, my coffee is cold and so is the morning I never lived. Had I sipped instead of trying to hold perhaps life would still taste as it gives.
