It doesn't seem like the general populace is really concerned though. I was only 9 but I feel like this is kinda similar to Y2K but instead of the panic leading to fixes like what happened then, it seems like the general tone now is apathy. Maybe that'll change.

Not gonna lie, the hugging face incident and others coming to light since is really scary when you realize that this is just the beginning. A couple of years ago we were all laughing at ai gen pictures and how ridiculous they look. Now I'm suspicious of a lot of media.

Money is getting exchanged like crazy and it's all just on speculation that this shit is gonna revolutionize humanity. Of course Jensen wants them to tokenmaxx. It's making his company rich. People are getting filthy rich when there's a chance we're on the cusp of our demise.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if that's the case. The highest valued companies all have their hands in the ai cookie jar either by the models themselves or the hardware and infrastructure needed to run it. Power companies making deals to power them. Data centers popping up all over.

We DEFINITELY need regulations at the global level for this; that's undeniable. Are the companies themselves not capable of pumping the brakes? Have they already lost control? Or is it that they can't on their own because doing so would upset the shareholders? I wonder.

Openai and anthropic ceos are telling the UN security council that AI is dangerous and needs some safeguards to not only prevent catastrophe but also so the power of these models aren't being controlled by just a handful of entities but like y'all the ones making the things.
