Since I started work we’ve made so much progress with diagnosing delirium, ascertaining its relationship with dementia, and advocating for informed and compassionate care of people suffering it. Still so much to do though and so many unknowns….. #WDAD2025

Strong House of God vibes from the Sun today…. Headline does no favours to older people or the folk looking after them
The Scottish sun with a headline describing admission avoidance and alternative pathways as ‘granny bouncing’

@mancunianmedic.bsky.social just found your 2008 JRSM article as the profanosaurus sprung to mind this morning! It’s a great article! I think we’ve made some progress if not quite enough…

I am a huge fan of lymphoma action after my dalliance with #hodgkins a few years ago. They are a super charity ❤️

Whilst we are talking about dying & giving people choices Can our government also choose to fund #PalliativeCare so that #hospices aren’t depending on charitable donations Why should end-of-life care need local people to run marathons & hold cake sales- which contributes to #inequities in care

Word of the day is ‘homeostenosis’ ie a loss of adequate homeostasis, so often seen in #frailty #geriatricmed I’m unsure if the stenosis root is quite ‘right’ (but am not a classicist) but it’s a great concept. How have I not heard it before? Obv have used it about 12 times today already 😅

Thank you @ncfcareforum.bsky.social for inviting @gerisoc.bsky.social to the panel. 3 million people work in social care & health care in the UK, so much we can do together to ensure people age well & older people are supported to live well, independently & healthily. Lots to do together!!

Pilgrimage to the #witches well near Edinburgh castle today on the way home as I am currently a bit obsessed The inscription suggests the artists wasn’t that convinced that the accused were in fact….all innocent 🤔
A stone well set into a wall with flowers planted in it Text describing the dedication to the witches burned near the site, and the choice of decoration with evil and serene faces reflects that whilst some used their ‘knowledge’ for good, others used it for evil Side of a stone well with a carving of hands, labelled hands of healing Other Side lf the well with a carved evil eye

Today’s fact is that Heberden (of the nodes, ofc) Also came up with the term ‘angina pectoris’. Osler commented on the feeling of ‘imminent dissolution’ - angina animi - we all learn in medical school. From an article suggesting silent angina is a geriatric syndrome (not sure I agree)

Family ethos at the moment is not ‘stop and smell the roses’ but ‘stop and watch the tractors’ (out of shot, it was a John Deere for #tractorbsky)
A toddler in a light blue coat watches through a metal gate across a field as a tractor ploughs a field, at sunset.

I'm on the lookout for doctors with hobbies again! This time particuary interested in ones that have a cultural significance to you or link you to your heritage (I think I'm thinking dance, food etc but I don't really know) Does that make sense? Email me arimmer@bmj.com if it does or to correct me
