Also (caveats that this is not true for everyone) people’s expectations are so much higher than they were a generation or two ago. I grew up in a 2 family house that’s smaller than my current house. Dining out/takeout twice in one week probably meant it was someone’s birthday. Etc etc etc

The other thing, whether or not it’s the “worst” terrorism attack, it was awful. The idea isn’t to diminish the attack, it’s to point out that public execution makes the terrorist a martyr and hands him a win. (We also diminish ourselves, but that’s not something everyone agrees with.)

There are definitely things you get socially obligated to do for work - I was at a conference in SF last month and had to go out late every night when I'd much rather had at least one night to go back to the hotel and watch a movie on my computer. I think the difference is this is someone supposedly doing your hobby with you being snarky and dismissive. You might joke about your hobby (Ren Faire? "Shopping in Ye Olde Woods") but I'd never be so dismissive of things my friends are into, I'd be pissed if I was in a league with him.

It's funny, I guessed a lot of the "mystery" bits of it (who the kid was, who killed Hal, etc.) but somehow Episode 8 still surprised me. Extremely excited to do a rewatch (trying to learn Spanish, so watching things again in Spanish after watching them in English)
