A sense of humour is one of God's gifts to us, and humour does appear in the Bible but sparingly. Our clergy honour this spirit by keeping the jokes in their sermons to an absolute minimum.

It's hilarious to me that very few Americans know anything about the War of 1812 and that Canadians burned down the White House, but Canada includes this as a potential question on the citizenship test.

A quiz question: "During the War of 1812 the Americans burned down the Parliament Buildings in York (now Toronto). What did the British and Canadians do in return?" The answer highlighted in green is "They burned down the White House in Washington D.C."

Reading this kind of thing boils my blood. I understand if you want an institution that aligns a certain way theologically. But how does this sort of sentiment not lead to the creation of ideologues rather than students? Which, isn’t that typically the conservative argument against “liberalism”?

In an act of pure vanity, I finally went to one of the main libraries here at McMaster and found my book on the shelf. It's two over from Jenson's /Visible Words/, the book which essentially set me down this path (besides also reading Hilary at the same time). That is just wild to me.
