The "See Your Doctor" poster campaign was later written up in the Brooklyn Eagle on Wednesday February 7, 1940. bklyn.newspapers.com/image/526892...
Brooklyn Eagle newspaper write-up:
Mayor Spurs War On Social Disease
Mayor LaGuardia in awarding prizes to winners of the citywide poster competition conducted by the Social Hygiene Bureau of the Department of Health today made an appeal against the "ignorance and hypocrisy" which, he said, are chiefly responsible for the failure to wipe out social diseases.
Top prize winners were: Herbert R. Loges, 370 Lexington Ave., Manhattan, first prize; Alex Steinweiss, 1280 E. 12th St., Brooklyn, second prize, and John F. Jordan Jr., 8721 94th St., Woodhaven, third prize. More than 100 posters, urging sufferers to "See Your Doctor" were on display.
The battle against social diseases, the Mayor said, was a "three-fold battle, against disease, ignorance and hypocrisy." He urged those afflicted to "be sensible" and see a private doctor or, if they cannot afford that, to go to a clinic.

DYK: three years before Alex Steinweiss changed the course of album art forever with the 1940 Rodgers & Hart comp for Columbia Records, he took 2nd Prize for this "See Your Doctor" poster?
Photo of a poster with a dark background and white text along the bottom (in all caps):
See Your Doctor
Be Examined
Have a Blood Test
Above the text are three light silhouettes of presumably two older adults and one child basking in the the spotlight of a dark caduceus symbol. Poster was reproduced in the book: For the Record: the Life and Work of Alex Steinweiss

Released 30 years after the Mingus LP is another favorite: The Sea and Cake’s first album from ’94. I have the LP and CD but my LP’s insert is missing, hence the smaller CD insert: (Still Life with Mingus) painting by bassist Eric Claridge.
Same photograph as above (Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus LP sitting on the blue chord organ), but this photo has the CD insert from the Sea and Cake’s self-titled first album. The insert has a still life painting by bassist Eric Claridge depicting a green cylindrical vase(?), a blue chalice(?), and the cover of this Mingus LP (minus four Minguses).

On paying attention
Coined in 1971 by Nobel laureate economist Herbert A Simon, the term “attention economy” describes attention as a most valuable and limited resource. In this zero-sum game, the growing “wealth of information means the dearth of something else” or, as Simon observes, “a poverty of attention”.

Illustration from a book that depicts an animal unfortunately nailed to a wall. The animal has a head of a cat, wings of a bat, and a torso of who knows what. Below the animal are three mice or rats, acting like everything is totally normal. The book is by Athanasius Kirchner (D’Athanase Kirchere) whose name is above the animal along with the page number (113). A black and white still from the Twilight Zone episode titled “Time Enough at Last” (season 1 episode 8, 1959). A Journey by Nikki Giovanni from Those Who Ride the Night Winds (1983) poets.org/poem/journey
Photo of the poem "A Journey" written by Nikki Giovanni and take from my copy of Those Who Ride the Night Winds (published in 1983).

Poem Reads:

It’s a journey . . . that I propose . . . I am not the guide . . . nor technical assistant . . . I will be your fellow passenger . . .

Though the rail has been ridden . . . winter clouds cover . . . autumn’s exuberant quilt . . . we must provide our own guide-posts . . .

I have heard . . . from previous visitors . . . the road washes out sometimes . . . and passengers are compelled . . . to continue groping . . . or turn back . . . I am not afraid . . .

I am not afraid . . . of rough spots . . . or lonely times . . . I don’t fear . . . the success of this endeavor . . . I am Ra . . . in a space . . . not to be discovered . . . but invented . . .

I promise you nothing . . . I accept your promise . . . of the same we are simply riding . . . a wave . . . that may carry . . . or crash . . .

It’s a journey . . . and I want . . . to go . . .

To help celebrate #Caturday, here's a relatively recent document from the National Library of Medicine's historical collections, demonstrating a unique perspective of cat therapy: resource.nlm.nih.gov/101611663
Color illustration of a seemingly distressed black & white cat sitting on a wooden chair and all four limbs submerged in metallic tubs filled with water. Attached to the tubs are devices that provide electric currents, which were thought to be therapeutic (Schnee Four Cell Bath). The distressed cat is apparently saying "I say! Stop it!!" while an orange cat standing on the left and dressed in a nurse's uniform is smiling mischievously; all totally normal. The artist's name, Louis Wain, is written on bottom right corner.
