"Aeon" (Terpsichore) seems to have little in common with her new format (under active construction), but the little detail of the Minoan Snake Goddess reappears in the use of the equestrian bit mouthpiece

"Academy" was a riposte to "Museum" (the antithesis to its thesis and the Plato to its Aristotle). The objects representing the Olympian Muses were reduced to geometric forms and each was assigned a colour taken from the alchemist Flamel's observed sequence of colours when transmuting lead to gold.

The first sculpture in this series was 'Museum" which was made of Mahogany and had 9 compartments containing objects representing the Olympian Muses crafted in black wax. The choice of objects was inspired by the etymology of each Muse's name.

Here are two versions of the Muse Polyhymnia: "Cypher" from 1997 (since destroyed) and the more recent "Still" from this year (very much intact).

Another of my ancient Muses. This is "Arc" (Euterpe) whose new version is nearly complete and can't be more different from this one.

For #ThrowbackThursday here's a rarely seen photograph of a sculpture from the mid 90's when I made my first attempt at creating new iconography for the Classical Muses. I'm taking another stab at the subject, now that I know what's what. "Core" (Kalliope)

Can only confirm that the inspiration for the look is one 'Jason' from GTA 😂 Auntie C would obviously prefer the one that ran with the Argonauts, but given what that Jason did to Medea, maybe the fictional car thief is an upgrade.

Chagall is never not joyous. I've always had a soft spot for Fra Angelico's "The Annunciation" in the Convento di San Marco in Florence. Never really understood why I found it so compelling until I realized how much it visually echoed my favourite sculpture - the "Peplos Kore" from the Parthenon.

Terpsichore finally rocked up to her design consultation, having presumably come directly from an old-school rave, and decided that THIS is how she wants her new outfit to look. 😬 There is every possibility that she may still change her mind. 🤞 *No. This is not me getting my excuses in early. 🙄
VERY ambitious plans for a new iteration of the Muse Terpsichore. I have no idea how this thing will stand up, given that the weight of that solid metal horse's bit is going to be held up by the spindly tines of two old rusted egg-beaters

We've also found some skinks in the garden. These poor guys are food for just about everyone.
Cape Legless Skink (Acontias meleagris)

Although not a snake at all – these small fossorial legless lizards (usually not exceeding 350m) are often confused with snakes at a glance. On closer inspection you will notice they moveable eyelids, shiny smooth scales and a distinct hard “beak” which all snakes lack. The Cape Legless Skink is commonly found under rocks, logs, amongst loose sandy soils and compost heaps.

They are totally harmless and are preyed upon by a number of small mammals, birds and other reptiles.

Yes! This is the closest to what the snake looked like. There's more than enough rodents, bats, and moles in the area for it to feed on as well.
Brown House Snake – Harmless

Arguably one of the most common and widespread snakes in South Africa. Easily distinguishable by the two white lines running down the side of the head. These snakes can be found in almost every environment from suburban gardens, forests and fynbos. Excellent at pest extermination, these snakes feeding mainly on rats, mice, lizards, birds and even bats have been recorded as prey. When first caught they may bite and strike out readily which may draw blood but only superficial bite marks. A commonly kept pet snake by many amateur snake enthusiasts.
