Luke seems to dismiss her expertise entirely, and focuses on her trauma. Which would be unusual if Melanie was a man. Before she's allowed to dive with him, she must eat a hearty meal, because the crew agrees: she's too skinny/dainty to work. Men giving women permission to eat was once a trope 😭

• Luke takes Melanie by the shoulders and shakes her. Now I don't know if this is standard practice in treating PTSD in 1986, but he shakes her hard enough for her to admit that she and Paul argued the night before his dive, he got drunk. Anyway, this man got the bends and Melanie blames herself

Helen Beck is training to become a witch like her late-grandmother, but managing a bed and breakfast and her ADHD, makes concentrating nearly impossible. When her mentor convinces her go into the woods and practice magic under the moonlight, she hopes that the natural world unlocks her dormant powers.
