A Night on Bald Mountain (1933) woah, really cool! didn't know they were doing animation like this back in the 30s, it feels like a predecessor to some 60s/70s stuff. i think this is called pinscreen animation? it's rad, as are the images they've paired with mussorgsky's music

Pokemon 2. B. A. Master the music podcast funpoint! is listening to this one for the 200th episode and i had this cd as a kid so fuck it lmao uhhh sad i know the lyrics to all of this, half of it is Stupid (affectionate) and half of it is like if christian music was about pikachu. double trouble >>

Society hell yeah, hell yeah this is what i come to horror for the least subtle foreshadowing in the world followed by an explosion of screaming mad george effects, rip king this ruled 🙏 love that one of the rich people at the party just says out loud the themes of the movie, we do be living in a

I Am Frankelda wow the creature design and set design in this are truly fantastic! exactly what you want from spooky stop motion, there is so much texture and color to every character and background, the villain song scene really went hard on the weirder animation too. will check out the web show!

Fruit & Nut very funny, i liked it! i too would let a hot evil women drag me into a life of crime for a taste of that jam, especially with those jams 🎶 very dad rock 70s psychedelia, but with that spongebob humor to it, great time for a lil 6 minute thing

Primetime great, very funny! waoh cinematography! could have been harder on hansen, lets the producer take on more of the culpability so there's room for a bit of rote 'tragic egonomanic learns fame has a price' but pattinson does such a great job with his maximalist performance that it still lands

Midori seazer dropping john carpenter beats in the aside about the magicians, and the bit where she's running through photographs? awesome! the scene where masamitsu fucks the audience up, with the music? almost worth sitting through this for. fuck the rest of it though i'll take belladonna any day

Mint Jams (Casiopea) very cool, the kind of jazzy city pop that feels like it is someone's favorite video game composer's favorite album, you know? i mean that with great love, paradise killer is like my favorite video game. the bass solo in domino line is 😘👌 but my fave is asayake i love da guitar

Ade (Xalam) fantastic album for a chill monday morning, the percussion on this is out of this world good. the keyboardist is doing phenomenal work on some of these tracks, the way it bounces off the percussion is really cool. 'kanu' is my fave because i'm predictable but all of it's a great listen

Coyote vs. Acme really good, very funny! only big flaw is the animation, the cel shading sucks they all look like fortnite skins, esp the human toons like granny 😭 but the yaoi hits so good so whatever, wile e. coyote >>>>> everyone is doing great slapstick, john cena was born to act against toons

The Day The Earth Blew Up cute! this would be radically better as a 30-minute tv movie, and there's a mix of really good animation and especially bad adult swim-tier animation, but daffy going looney is a true Classic Bit, farmer jim is a perfect guy, it's a fun time

Resident Evil (2026) really liked this, it's got the things i love about resident evil in it without feeling beholden to adaptation - very gross, very weird, very tense, very funny, very video game (affectionate)! cool shots! love that protag has a nemesis. laughed out loud when [actor] showed up

A Girl Can Dream (OUST) great lil punk album, more in the hardcore subgenre than i tend to listen to but i quite liked it! the singer's voice and the rhythm of the music carried me into it easily, and of course it's a real 2026 mood to just need to scream and cry and fight. wish i had the guts!

The Green Knight rewatched this for the first time since i saw it in theatres; man is it harder to hear and see without being in a Cinema but it's cool i unironically love long ass boring movies and i love sir gawain and the green knight and i love convoluted cuckoldry and dev patel is so damn good

Mujo akio jissoji one of the best to ever do it right out the gate, SUCH a phenomenal film. the main characters are the cameraman and the violinist going off on bach in the score, so fantastic. i personally think more philosophical ponderings scenes should be shot like the hallway fight from oldboy

Prehistoric Peeps cool bit of history, the costumes..! it *feels* like a comic strip (esp with the ending) in a way that's impressive from a 1905 film adaptation check it out it's like 5mins www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsSe... (but also watch the rest of the vid + saurian cinema series they're v good)

The Fisherman and His Soul (Oscar Wilde) has those racist travelogue asides that are unfortunately common to this sort of fairy tale and are very Skimmable but otherwise, very fun! funny! he faces three temptations to leave his mermaid wife (wisdom, riches,) and the one that gives him pause is Feet

The Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Andersen) watched an ep of sayonara lara and went back to the original manga. after she turns into sea foam, she becomes a sylph and is assured she will go to heaven after all and tbh that's pretty different from how the ending's been described to me my whole life

Bad Lieutenant sometimes it takes until the fourth nested crash out of all time for you to kind of just embrace it, you know? it's a pretty great film, like deeply and unceasingly uncomfortable but also i have never felt more tension about a sports in my life. rip lt you woulda loved murphy vs ncaa

Sinners watched again with a couple of bestiesss, i have nothing new to say about it but it's good, really fun!! the fact that these are old school 'need an invitation to come inside' vampires gets funnier every time i watch it tbh i love magic with rules

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Borderline fascinating film! as a historical document, it's great; as a story being told, i'm a bit torn.. paul robeson is phenomenal in this even if silent film intrinsically undersells his talent, but there's something patronizing about how he's presented at times? idk, nonetheless glad i watched

The Furious badass! can't say i liked the characters or the story or the kinda reactionary themes or any of that shit, it's all about action choreography spectacle here and it is cool! get five guys in a room and have them swap partners like an old ballroom dance and you've got a banger fight scene

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Supergirl boring, but not bad; better than the last few years of marvel, worse than the last few years of dc. milly alcock's girlfailure performance carries it, though leaning into it makes for uninteresting fight scenes - cut it to 70 min and get a matte painting for each planet and i'd like this!

Human Vapor it might lack the sauce of honda's original, and developing the cop characters is nothing but detrimental, but for an 8ep streaming show? really good! great characters, excellent music, some fun effects shots! i won't be able to see a 7-10 split ever again without thinking of that scene

Widow's Bay (S1) fun! took a while to really get on the same page as this show, the pivots between 'yes a supernatural horror is occurring' and 'no the hotel just has a black mold problem' were hard to ground myself in -- but once that style of comedy clicked for me, the rest of it worked! patricia

Keep This A Secret From The Laughing Kookaburra wow! this is a great one, really interesting explorations of creativity and gender and anxiety - resonated a lot with me, i'll be rotating this oneshot in my head for weeks i think idk what a kookaburra sounds like (googles it) OH this is in cartoons

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

The Glass Marble could have used more room to explore its ideas, but very neat! okada's style is an interesting blend of 60s shoujo aesthetics and a sort of western animation style idk the name for? if there is one? in old educational cartoons? she could've made a banger henry selick adaptation too

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

The Human Vapor LOVED this, a top 3 honda film for me. been watching the new 'remake' (loosely, but it was fun getting the references!) show with a friend and just had to know before we finished it sdkjfs anyway, fujichiyo the woman of all time! fun effects, i love a man who is a patron of the arts

Companion 'good for her', as they say! does not do much new with this material, but it does it well - the 60s(/70s?) pop beats, the outfits, the acting (except the main guy, but he doesn't exactly need to be deep so it doesn't matter much). overmixes its metaphors, re: patriarchy and tech criticism

The Lovers i liked it! really pretty animation and background art, character designs -- i think the core notes here hit well, the big moments that need to land are given the attention they deserve, but it sacrifices a lot in pacing to do so, and the relationship of the titular lovers suffers for it

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

The Mitten very cute! short and sweet, nice models for the stopmotion (both the dogs [+ mitten] and the girl and her mom) and the music is very uplifiting, similar genre to like american 60s tv show opening themes. when she ties the loose thread of her mitten dog into a little bow tail, v adorable

Casval 🕷️ @charaznable.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

Scanners cool! gross (affectionate)! this has the same main plot as like a third of mecha anime so i was predisposed to like it, and i really did, but i gotta be honest i think i like cronenberg the most when he's more sexual with it. vale and revok should have fucked newtype style imo imo imo

Born in Flames (not that one) the soviet silent film that the red krayola song that the borden film is named for. had to pause often to check my russian-english dictionary (not helped by th cut off intertitles), but very interesting! haunting shots, neat superimpositions, rad act 3 music transition
