I always make a soundtrack for my book project, with music that fits the overall mood. Then I sort the titles into playlists which are either 60 or 25 minutes long and use the music as a kind of pomodoro timer when I'm writing.

And they all look the same. Like, seriously, it's hard to tell books of one genre apart. Which is by design, I get that, but I've lost all interest browsing through normal bookstores. I get most of my reads from little libraries and flee markets these days.

I always dreamed of being traditionally published. But I also dreamed of writing queer, kinky, smutty, weird books that defy genre boundaries. So I ended up publishing them myself, because I couldn't imagine an agent or publisher they would fit in with.

Yeah, me too. I always try to have my characters do something mundane while they talk: cook a meal, train at the gym, change a tire etc. Just so that I have stuff I can weave in between the endless chatter.
