The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson by two Tennessee National Guard soldiers assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force during an early Sunday morning foot pursuit in downtown Memphis. Our statement:
The Chamberlain Network is saddened by the fatal shooting involving members of the Tennessee National Guard deployed to Memphis.
The known facts are grave. A young American is dead, and two National Guard soldiers now carry the weight of that responsibility.
We urge the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent investigation. Johnson’s family, the city of Memphis, and the soldiers involved deserve a full public accounting of what happened, what orders governed the encounter, and why National Guard members were placed in that role.
While we wait for the facts to emerge, what is clear is that members of the National Guard were put in an impossible position. If we truly respect the Natioanl Guard we must commit ourselves as a nation to refuse to place service members in missions they were not meant to own. Public safety is best led by accountable civilian institutions, not the military.
Our hearts are with Tyrin Johnson’s family, the soldiers involved, and the city of Memphis in this difficult moment.

For troops overseas and citizens abroad, voting isn't a walk to the polls. A ballot has to make a round trip — out across bases, ships, and foreign mail, then all the way back. Here's how voting overseas works, and how the story of the military voting while deployed is much older than 1986 🧵
Dark green title slide. Small label reads "The Chamberlain Network" and "Free and Fair Elections." Large white headline: "UOCAVA and You" Subtitle: "How military and overseas Americans vote — and the federal law built to protect it." A faint dashed arc suggests a round trip. "Swipe" prompt in the corner. Medium green slide titled "Voting Far From Home." Text: "In 1986, Congress passed UOCAVA — the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act — the one federal law dedicated to making sure military members, their families, and U.S. citizens living abroad can register and vote absentee in federal elections." Two outlined pills read "Active-duty military & eligible families" and "U.S. citizens living abroad."Dark green slide titled "A Ballot Has to Make a Round Trip." Three boxes connected by arrows read OUT, MARK, BACK. Text explains that a ballot travels out to a base, ship, or another country, gets marked, and travels back through military mail (APO/FPO), foreign postal systems, couriers, and the U.S. mail — and that a voter controls when they send it but not how long it takes to arrive.Light gray slide titled "How a UOCAVA Ballot Travels: the process, step by step." A numbered vertical timeline: 1) Request your ballot with the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), one form that registers you and requests your ballot; 2) Your election office processes it under UOCAVA; 3) Your ballot is sent at least 45 days before a federal election, by mail or electronically, under the MOVE Act; 4) You mark and return it, usually the longest leg of the trip; 5) It's received and counted if it arrives in time under your state's rules. A highlighted "Backup" note explains the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) is the federal fail-safe if your ballot never arrives.
