I tell you what, there's a point early doors where they go "curtains over this part, I'm not telling you about it" and I thought OH that's very nicely done indeed. Promising stuff!

(I think there is still a space in the world for publishing to do a 'fitness guide for absolutely all bodies and abilities including those who have the very absence of a clue' so if we can get on that, then that would be great thank you).

Good morning! I ran for fifteen minutes yesterday which is world-changing paradigm-shifting stuff for me (and I see you and support you if you're on a similar journey!), so today's read is "ow, ow, my legs" but also the last little bit of the Maids of La Rochelle by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer.

4 books sit on a brown wooden background. The books are Three Go To The Chalet School, The Head Girl of the Chalet School, A Rebel At The Chalet School, and a bindup of A United Chalet School and Chalet School In Exile.

For those asking what Sunday’s bizarre illustration was taken from, it’s from a piece suggesting that playing at “Mrs Jarley’s Waxworks” was the in thing for grownup party games around Christmas 1883. Instructions attached should you wish to try it at home (at your own risk).

There's strong parlour games vibes throughout the books - sorting mixed up shoes, recognising baby pics of pupils (ebd points out that the shape of the ear doesn't change which is a line that's stuck with me forever), apple bobbing, fortune telling (both with cards -ish and crystal ball iirc)...

I do have the sneaking suspicion of maybe having read about it also in Angela Brazil (?or somebody of that ilk?). The Cs was definitely the first time I came across it. They reference it (the performance in Lintons) repeatedly in the series as well.

Daisy May Johnson @chaletfan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They DO. It's in The Chalet School and The Lintons (very solid affair all round) and I believe it's on the paperback cover (Armada reprint) but not on the original hb.

I think for me, what's working, is how she's leaning into obvious strengths of hers - even the romance angle. It's all kind of enormously satisfying how unabashedly itself it is.

The image is of a four panel comic. The title reads "Poltergeist".
In the first panel we see a woman with a worried expression on her face. She says, "stuff keeps moving around my house."
In the second panel the same woman says "I'm terrified. I can't sleep."
In the third panel we see a ghost holding a candle and a pillow that reads "live laugh love". The ghost is zooming through the house.
In the fourth panel we see the same ghost hanging up a frame and thinking, "home decor is my passion".

Good morning. Today's read is The Maids of La Rochelle by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer (and it's a brand new EBD for me!). Many thanks to my friends at the New Chalet Club for the enormously appropriate bookmark. If you don't know the NCC, you can discover more at ww2.newchaletclub.co.uk #booksky
A copy of The Maids of La Rochelle by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer sits on a pink and cream striped background. The book cover is a little tatty and protected by a clear wrapper. On top of the book sits a bookmark with a picture of an author against a backdrop of a lake and mountains. Text on the bookmark reads: Celebrating the Works of Elinor M. Brent-Dyer.
