The algorithm knows parents will do anything and buy anything for their baby. And selling moms on the “one perfect item” is all by design. @chabeli.bsky.social recently published a deep dive into this billion-dollar industry and is hosting a Reddit AMA all about it tomorrow! bit.ly/4dQbD8o

Gen Z women want politicians who can make the 'American dream' feel attainable
Affordability is the top issue for Gen Z women. But few candidates are appealing to them with a message strong enough to cut through the noise.

Our new poll with YouGov finds that 52% of Americans support boosting federal childcare spending. But here’s what surprised me: The one group that expressed the most robust support for greater childcare spending was actually Gen Z. 19thnews.org/2026/10/poll...

Americans of all ages want more federal help with childcare costs. Gen Z most of all.
New polling from The 19th and YouGov found that support for child care spending was particularly strong among Gen Z, reflecting how affordability shapes their future family planning.

Raena Boston, a mom of 3, put it like this: "There is a market for people to prey upon that, to seize upon those anxieties and fears of, ‘Here, just buy this thing. You just need this product, and you’re gonna have an optimal kid.’”

But we can’t just blame the internet. Nearly every industrialized nation developed a national paid leave policy that allowed parents to stay home for months with their infants, enough time to figure it out w/o relying so heavily on products. Every industrialized nation, but one: The U.S.

In 1946, pediatrician Dr. Benjamin Spock published “The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care,” a guide that encouraged parents to center children’s feelings. His advice was radical & his book sold more than 50M copies. It created a generation of nurturing parents — who spent money on their kids
