We finally have jobs numbers out this morning from September and take a look at this: big jump again in Black women's unemployment, now 7.5% from 6.7% in August. This figure has been ticking up all year. This is now the highest unemployment rate Black women have faced in 4 years, since mid-2021.

Nicolle was detained at a routine ICE appt that she's been going to at least monthly for a year. She had no criminal record. And she thought she was doing everything right, taking classes and getting licensed to open her own center. She was taken into custody with her husband and two young sons.

Nicolle's speciality was working with children who have disabilities. It's a job in deep shortage; one few Americans want to take on. She stood out for her patience and care. Here's an excerpt:

The high rate of unemployed Black women is also concerning because Black women tend to remain unemployed for longer than other workers. In June, the average time Black women spent unemployed before they found a job was more than six months — the longest duration of any group.
