New opinion article by me! Discussing how we can build resilient urban mobility to deal with oil price and other shocks. theconversation.com/oil-price-sh...

Oil price shocks have exposed car-dependent cities. Here’s what governments can do
Resilient urban mobility can be created by giving people options that ensure they can still move around when a shock affects one form of transportation.

To add to this, #Guelph needs to institute a traffic circulation plan (see video) to encourage trips by walking, cycling, and transit ... youtu.be/bgKokpZMFnU...

You should read this. It’s excellent communication & story-telling. “I’m driving less. I don’t want to see the world through a driver’s eyes any more. Before I began driving less, I had long had a melancholic sense that the city lifestyle I lived was cut off...” #UrbanTruth From @irishtimes.com

Super stoked Walkable City just crossed 50k! That means our city board will get extra detail by our illustrator, Ryan Goldsberry! There's also been chatter about what city to base our extra map on. If you have a suggestion, make your voice heard in our comments! www.kickstarter.com/projects/fow...

A tsunami of disinformation & lies slams us every day. It can feel overwhelming. But the truth will ALWAYS matter. We CAN take action. @tomflood.bsky.social, @grantennis.bsky.social and I took action by starting @urbantruth.bsky.social. Other great people are now joining. We hope you’ll follow us.
“Bike-lanes mean business.”“Speed wasn’t a factor.”

Speed is always a factor. If we don’t build housing to solve homelessness, we don’t really want to solve homelessness.Walkable neighbourhoods aren’t scary, they’re convenient.

This is a great example of how public transit can very easily and seamlessly fit within the urban landscape (through a park in this case). For the same number of people moved by cars, you would probably need four lanes of traffic - a huge scar in our cities!

How about those gas prices? Brutal, huh? You know what really costs us all a lot? Car dependency. #UrbanTruth
Graphic with busy car congested road. Text says car dependency is the opposite of freedom. Mobility freedom comes from mobility choices. Ad is from the Urban Truth Collective.

As urbanisation accelerates, cities are grappling with unprecedented pressures—from chronic housing shortages to streets overwhelmed by cars. In response, a small but growing group of leaders is matching the scale of the challenge—steering toward a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable future.🧵
People walk, cycle, and sit in a “Superblock” in Barcelona— an intersection transformed into a public space by introducing traffic calming, trees and plants, street furniture, and bike parking.
