Yes there are so many horror stories of people waiting too long at the ER. In emergency situations, we can still access good care and today I am so damn grateful for that.

A family member had a medical emergency today and went to the qeh via ambulance. While our healthcare system is certainly broken, we received excellent care from everyone involved: paramedics, nurses, and the er doc we saw. They’ll be ok and we are all home now, after being there less than 5 hrs.

I’m tired of complaining about being tired. Been awake for 2 hours now, and I have a full day tomorrow of things that cannot be rescheduled. Excellent.

There’s a direct relationship between breath and pain tho so I am eager to try to learn this skill. (Hypermobile people often shallow breathe and we hold our breath a lot, both actions that cause our ribs to brace, leading to pain in ribs, back, and neck. Good times.)

Today’s physio session involved my physiotherapist teaching me how to breathe. Apparently I need supervision to breathe properly. While I’m grateful always for her guidance, sometimes living with EDS makes you feel like you can’t “human” correctly. It’s humbling.

I missed summer deck season, so I’m embracing fall deck season.
Photo of a section of my deck. In the middle is a fire pit table. Around the table are 3 chairs, one wooden chair and 2 patio-style ones. On the 4th side of the table is a patio-style love seat. I have flowers all over the deck to add pops of colour.

I encourage all parents to opt out. Kids need to learn critical thinking skills before they learn AI. Other countries are banning AI in schools for this reason. So, aside from the environmental harm AI causes, do a solid for your child’s brain and allow them to develop these essential skills first.

PEI parents of kids in the K-12 school system: Just an FYI that you can opt out of your kid’s use of AI via the IT forms we have to sign every year. That form requires 2 signatures—one for AI (that you can opt out of) and one for general tech. So you can allow your kid to use computers, but no AI.

I occasionally post to Linkedin, re: various editing services, reading/publishing industry info. I get small engagement and that’s ok. Last week, I posted about AI and it’s harmful effect on both creatives and the environment, and it attracted attention. Makes me wonder… /1

I beg doctors for help. I’m told the same old stuff you read about on lifestyle blogs: limit alcohol (I have maybe 1 glass wine a month), caffeine (my sometimes 1 cup coffee takes place at 730 am), no screens (this makes zero difference), and reduce stress. I’m convinced there’s more to it… /1

Awake since 3:30 and I guess since it’s now 6:00, that’s my sleep window closed. I slept from 11pm until 2am and then an additional hour from 2:30-3:30. This isn’t sustainable…

The only reasonable ethical discussion to have regarding "smart glasses" is whether or not to let the user remove the glasses prior them being smashed.

Fell back to sleep at 6 for one hour but had one of those too-real dreams that was unsettling. On one hand, yay I’m dreaming again after a decade of not. But I hate those dreams. At least with nightmares, they tend to be so unrealistic, you can put them into “movie category.” Not this one.

Wide awake again. At least I made it to 4:30 instead of the 3 o’clock hour. Can jet lag last a week or is this insomnia 2.0? I slept so well while on vacation and thought new meds were working but who knows anymore… 🤷‍♀️

Heard from another editor friend (this one in Quebec) who is losing clients to AI and having to switch roles. More and more editors are losing work…only to be hired to “humanize” AI text. I struggle with the logic on that. Just hire a human in the first place! #SayNoToAI

Also, more and more agents, editors, and publishers are enforcing strict anti-AI policies so you are hurting yourself if you use ChatGPT (or any AI) as a tool.

I’m getting more emails from writers who used ChatGPT for editing “help,” and because they did so, are now being refused by agents, publishers, and editors. I feel for them because AI ignorance is huge, so here’s my PSA: You are more creative than a robot and you do not need AI.

While I was in Scotland, a library loan came in…and then left as I couldn’t pick it up before the hold date. Now I’m back at place #25. Dang. (I’m only mildly miffed as I did buy 12 books while in the UK AND I have a full bookcase of unread books at home, lol.)

I’m back from my Scottish adventures, and I’m looking at my fall calendar, booking editing projects. Reach out if you’d like to chat about structural edits, manuscript evaluations, submission packages, book coaching, or anything book-related, self-publishing or traditional. #BookSky #EditorSky
Photo of a caramel colour (light brown) highland cow, facing forward, just behind a steel railing. The cow stands on dirt. In the background, you can see grass.

On the railing, I have added this text: You COO’d have your manuscript professionally reviewed this fall…

I also added my logo in the upper right-hand corner: a large R with the word “Rosemount” underneath, in black. I took some much-needed time off recently, where I was fortunate enough to travel to Scotland to attend a family wedding and soak in some Scottish culture. I even fed some highland coos because…well, they’re highland coos! (Need I say more?)

I had an amazing time, but now I’m back and opening my books for fall projects.

Do you have a story you want to turn into a book?
Are you planning on submitting a manuscript to a publisher?
Maybe you’re self-publishing and focusing on those finishing touches?

Whether you’re looking to submit your work to a traditional publisher or you plan to self-publish, I can help ensure your story is as strong as it possibly can be.

If your fiction story has under-developed or unnecessary characters, a flawed plot, unclear timelines, overly complex ideas, etc., a publisher will not accept your proposal.

If your non-fiction work includes redundancies, unclear explanations, out-of-order sequence, is at a reading level that contradicts your intended audience, etc., a publisher will not accept your proposal.

And if you are self-publishing? Those negative reviews affect your future revenue and reputation (ouch!).

So, before you hit SEND on that publisher email or upload your file for self-publishing, you’ll want to make sure your story is as solid as it can be.

I can help with that.

I invite you to get in touch if you’d like to chat about...
[bulleted list of items]

* a full structural edit pre-publisher pitch OR pre-self-publishing
your submission package
* copyediting your sample
* a manuscript evaluation
* copyediting needs, if you are self-publishing
* book coaching, for accountability/motivation to achieve writing goals

To whom it may concern: Chapman’s lactose-free, low(er) sugar ice cream is on sale at Sobeys for $3.99. It’s normally over $8 and I refuse to buy it at that price. But I do love Chapman’s!

Logically, there’s the financial risk of picking up germs on a plane and ruining part/all of your holiday. Why take that risk? Even if you don’t mask most places, I’d love to see more people mask on planes to protect their holiday, at least. Better than nothing!

On a positive note, we had two encounters with people asking if we were sick because we were masked, and when we explained our reasoning, they actually paused to consider our words. Called us smart and considerate. We were polite in our explanations. I hope we sparked some rethinking there.

Of course I ended up sitting next to two sick people on the various flights I was on (one on the way to UK, the other, just the short Montreal-Charlottetown leg). Look, I get it; you spent $$$ on a flight and don’t want to cancel travel. I’d prob do the same, in all honesty. But… 🧵/1
