“The funny thing is, the more I thought about it, the more it made sense in a crazy way. I mean, by all accounts I’m a medical miracle. It’s all very well going on a bender for a couple of weeks, but mine went on for the best part of 40 years.” (“Trust Me, I'm Dr Ozzy”) Farewell, Dr. Ozzy 🤟

One key job of the media is to tell truth to power. Not just journalists, but interviewers, comedians, artists and others. Stephen Colbert did that. This cancellation is political. It’s part of Paramount’s capitulation to Trump. My appetite for CBS and Paramount+ programming is now near zero.

Even against all of Trump's cascading attacks over the past seven months, it had seemed that up until now, our culture at large—the literal shows, movies, art, music, literature we consume—seemed somewhat siloed from Trump's fury. But the end of Colbert marks a dark new stage.

Colbert's cancellation is a dark warning

CBS's decision marks a dangerous new stage for the culture at large.
