This #FeministFridays, we're turning heartbreak into action. Julie D. Nelson asks what we might do with our longing for what's been lost on campus, turning it into countermemory and coalition work rather than retreat. Read it in the Summer 2026 Peitho issue: doi.org/10.37514/PEI...
In "A Case for Nostalgia in Academia's Crisis," Julie D. Nelson reads a taped-over DEI office sign as countermemory, arguing that critical nostalgia helps feminist rhetoricians critique hegemonic movements while preserving the histories now under threat. She calls on the field to document and preserve countermemories of current attacks on higher education so that what we long for can fuel coalition work toward just futures. New #FeministFridays in Peitho Summer 2026! At a time of fear, gaslighting, and precarity, how do we process the friction between our values and our institutions’ actions? 🧵
The image reads "In "Disrupting Rhetorics of Inevitability in Higher Education" Del Russo et al. identify and push back on rhetorics of inevitability which manufacture emergencies in order limit agency. They call on feminist rhetoricians to examine narrative frameworks that convince institutions to move in bad faith and from a sense of panic and instead work towards just futures. This #FeministFridays, we're back highlighting feminist work from the CCC's archives. You can find this week's articles at the links below, and tell us in the comments--which work should we highlight next?
Published in 2021, "Sexual Violences Traveling to El Norte: An Example of Quilting as Method," by Sonia C. Arellano presents a quilt as the published research itself and argues that Quilting as Method, a feminist qualitative method, can deepen how the field understands the state-sanctioned violences migrant women experience.Published in 1999, "Feminism in Composition: Inclusion, Metonymy, and Disruption," by Joy Ritchie and Kathleen Boardman traces three overlapping tropes across thirty years of feminist work in composition and asks what each one makes possible.Published in 1994, "sex, lies, and manuscript: Refiguring Aspasia in the History of Rhetoric," by Cheryl Glenn reconstructs Aspasia of Miletus as a teacher and rhetorician whose contributions were attributed to the men around her, and asks where on the rhetorical landscape we should begin looking for women.Published in 1994, "Kitchen Tables and Rented Rooms: The Extracurriculum of Composition," by Anne Ruggles Gere argues that writing development happens regularly and successfully outside classroom walls, and asks composition to recognize its extracurriculum as an autonomous cultural formation with its own projects.

Statement from the CFSHRC's Executive Board #SaveCCCC 💔
The Executive Board of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition has been watching the social media posts regarding NCTE’s intention to dissolve the Conference on College Composition and Communication into their College Section. We too have found this news incredibly disheartening. We urge NCTE to take the time to hear from Cs leadership and our larger scholarly community before they make any decisions regarding the future of Cs.

While we await official statements and clarity from leadership of both NCTE and Cs, we wanted to express our appreciation for the immense impact Cs has had on the formation, growth, and sustainability of our field for over three quarters of a century.

During this painful time, we see the deep care we have for our work and the endless generosity of time, talent, and expertise that so many in our community have donated to Cs and to us all over the years. We deeply appreciate the executive board and Cs leadership for their work during this difficult time. Any organization is made up of people, and we will persist and thrive.
It is our hope that the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition can be a place to gather, process, and support our colleagues.
In solidarity,
Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition
Cristy Beemer, President
Rebecca Richards, Immediate Past President
Jess Enoch, Former President
Jen Almjeld, Vice President

The Disability Studies Standing Group of Cs also put out a statement
Statement reading: The Disability Studies Standing Group (DSSG) of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) joins our colleagues across the field in expressing our deep concern regarding NCTE leadership’s reported plans to dissolve CCCC and integrate its work into NCTE’s College Section. While the exact status and future of CCCC remain unclear, we are alarmed by the lack of transparency surrounding this decision-making process and by the absence of meaningful communication and consultation with CCCC officers, Committees and Committee chairs, Standing Groups, Task forces, and the broader CCCC membership.

For DSSG in particular, CCCC has provided an essential scholarly home for researchers, teachers, and activists working at the intersections of critical disability studies, disability rhetoric, and composition studies. Through CCCC’s support of Standing Groups, DSSG has developed and sustained mentoring relationships, maintained shared resources, coordinated disability-focused panels and workshops, advocated for access, and built a community for scholars whose work has historically been marginalized within academic institutions.

The proposal to dissolve CCCC’s - especially without the communication and collaboration necessary to safeguard and sustain the organization’s long history of knowledge- and resource-building - threatens the relationships and intellectual networks cultivated through DSSG’s operations. For early-career scholars and graduate students, the community built through DSSG and other CCCC’s standing groups provides an introduction to the field and supportive mentorship. We are deeply saddened by the thought that future generations of rhetoric and composition scholars and students will not be able to benefit from all that CCCC offers. CCCC plays a critical role in pedagogical knowledge production in composition and writing studies and beyond, and the loss of disability and accessibility position statements written by composition…

We are so excited to read this book at the intersection of #transfeminist rhetorical theory and #ComicsStudies!
Description

Examining the works of ten different transgender comic creators, including Julia Kaye, Mae Dean, and N.D. Stevenson, Zoe Wendler and Jamie Garner show the vital role these comics play in online transgender communities.

Dreaming Ourselves Intro Being: The Rhetoric of Trans Comics explore the ways in which trangender webcomic creators and their readers use the medium to offer guidance on coming out, support during those early months, and hope for a world in which being transgender is far from remarkable. Ultimately, they show how these comics fill the void created by decades of cruel medical gatekeeping and neglect and media representation that reduced the incredible complexity of gender diversity into a binary transness much more palatable to cisgender audiences.

This book is a deeply interdisciplinary autoethnography, bringing together research in rhetoric, medicine, history, psychology, sociology, queer studies, and comic studies to show just how essential transgender webcomics are to the trans artists that create them and the trans people who read them.
