I'm fond of the Four Latin Doctors. Two of them — Augustine and Ambrose — figure centrally in my favorite book: Augustine's CONFESSIONS, Gregory is patron of the Benedictine community of which I'm a confrater, and Jerome is patron of students (Also there's a great van Eyck Jerome in Detroit)

Same for us at St. Francis of Assisi parish Ann Arbor! 🕊️ The thing I love most about our parish is that although we have diocesan clergy, not friars, we lean into our Franciscan identity — Franciscan hymns year-round, the Transitus (this year on the second), the works. Loving the jubilee year.

One of the most important books in our collection is the Litlyngton Missal, a 14th-century service book made for the Abbey's High Altar. The Latin manuscript contains the readings and prayers used at the celebration of the Mass, and a calendar of festivals and saints’ days. #ManuscriptMonday

I spent the weekend here at home with the 14-year-old, driving to and from dance lessons and enjoying Destination Stars Hollow — an annual Gilmore Girls remake of downtown Brighton, Michigan 🍂 — while the 11-year-old and The Other Doctor Casper were in Colorado at a tarantula festival. 🕷️

Our 11-year-old had her First Communion on Good Shepherd Sunday 2022, so we associate that image with her. (We have a couple icons of it.) This morning she was up earlier than usual so when I was reading the Mass texts — including this communion antiphon — I could see her over in the kitchen. ❤️
