Yep. Most people would consider a vote for most parties under the right circumstances. However Reform/Restore have hard ceilings of support with millions of voters being completely unwinnable for them. There is no scenario that would make me throw away my vote on either of them

It’s striking how the left didn’t vote for anyone but Labour. The Greens are surging in popularity yet didn’t even manage 1% of the vote. Tactical voting can and does work, and is the only way to beat the right-wing stain on the country in many constituencies given the failures of FPTP

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

Yes, it’s a win win to vaccinate boys too - extra protection for women, protection from several cancers for the boys. My son isn’t old enough yet but will 100% be getting it when it’s offered - he’ll be happy to do so

Given that MAGA is clearly a cult which brainwashes people, it’s interesting to ponder how many of these people know they’re lying versus actually believing the opposite of reality is true

I don’t think this is a realistic hope. Look at Trump voters still willing to support him. Farage will just tell them all the disasters his councillors cause are someone else’s fault and they’ll lap it up. We’re in deep trouble

Remember how people were leaving in droves from his rallies? Remember how he said, “you’ll never have to vote again. It will all be fixed”? Remember how he acknowledged that the 2024 election was rigged, on camera on multiple occasions? I do.

What good would a law to make him have the approval of Congress do when he’s already doing things he legally needs to consult Congress on without their agreement? I don’t know what the answer is but it surely can’t be just to create more meaningless laws for him to ignore?!

See also the election. If he did this, why is it so hard for people to acknowledge that when he openly talked about rigging the election, that’s almost certainly what he did?

… the bounds of normalcy. But it’s illogical to think a man who will casually tweet a threat of genocide would balk at cheating. There are no depths too low for this man. He needed to win and he made sure he did. So stop thinking you can vote your way out of this and DO SOMETHING!!! (2/2)

Today removes any last shred of doubt I had that he didn’t really win in 2024. It’s known that the machines aren’t secure and it’s possible to hack them and they openly talked about fixing it; the only reason not to believe he cheated is that it’s such an extreme action, so far beyond… (1/2)

They won’t, even if it’s what the people want - do you seriously believe a man as far gone as this who casually tweets about his intention to commit genocidal war crimes would feel even a tiny bit bad about doing whatever it took to rig the election?

My year 3 teacher made us all recite the Lord’s Prayer every morning. It wasn’t a religious school and no other teacher in the school made us do this. It was just this one teacher pushing her religion on us. I’m 42 now and still angry about it. Gbeebies can feck off with their fake outrage

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today. This could be you.
Distraught woman says ICE killed her wife in video after deadly Minneapolis shooting
"They killed my wife," the distraught woman says, adding, "They shot her in the head."
An ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman who was driving an SUV in Minneapolis on Wednesday. / Screenshot/@Breaking911"They killed my wife. I don't know what to do," the woman says through sobs in the footage, with a damaged SUV visible in the distance behind her. "We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head," the woman cries.
"We have a six-year-old at school," she says, almost unable to breathe, as a chaotic scene in which federal officers prevented at least one doctor who was on the scene from assisting the shot victim unfolds. "We're new here," the distraught woman says in despair.

With all due respect, if you guys have any hope of things turning around over there, it needs to start with acknowledging where things are. You’re not on the slide to authoritarianism, you are living under an authoritarian, fascist, tyrannical government. Things can still get worse but you are there

I can’t think of any better way to illustrate how a lot of these people do not actually believe immigration as a whole is bad, or even that it’s vital to follow the correct processes - if he had an issue he wouldn’t have married her. It ALL comes down to where they’re from and skin colour

We’ve bombed Iran. And dismantled our joint terrorism task force. And sent a third of the FBI to help ICE. And gutted the National Security Council. And a drunk guy is in charge at the pentagon. And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman.

I’m in Oxford too. My son is home from school today sick with what appears to be heat exhaustion after running around, as small kids are wont to do, too much at breaktime yesterday. It’s hard to find any real escape from the heat when the house is desperately clinging onto it

… another vote gives all on the RW a free pass to whip up fury and indignation and take us straight back out again. That is what I’m saying the EU will steer clear of. I want to rejoin every bit as much as you do. We just disagree on how to go about it

You’re misunderstanding me. It’s not just about how it’s reported, it’s about how people are being manipulated by media and social media to fervently believe in things that go against their interests. Currently the population is pro rejoining in polls but it hasn’t been tested. Rejoining without…

They could hold another referendum, I’d fully support that. But in the social media era people can be convinced to believe anything. Pushing ahead without a nod from the public would be political suicide. Right-wingers would be whipped up into a rabid fury, like how they were persuaded to vote leave

Celeri @celericat.bsky.social · 08/05/2025
Starmer was a vocal remain supporter though. I think he knows exactly what damage it’s done but is being misled into thinking his oath to success is purely via courting the right wing vote. I am with you in spirit and fervently wish we’d rejoin, but the RW media would have a field day and kibosh it

Celeri @celericat.bsky.social · 08/05/2025
No one’s currently staking anything though because no one’s currently proposing rejoining, and no party would dare do that without assurance the public were behind them. I respect your views and really wish I could agree with you on this, but I think it’s wishful thinking *at this time*

Celeri @celericat.bsky.social · 08/05/2025
It’s just logical though, isn’t it? We’ve messed them around horrifically and our media/politics are dominated by right-wing voices who shriek that even moving minutely closer to the EU is a betrayal. Why on earth would they want to take us back without assurances we’d moved past that?

Celeri @celericat.bsky.social · 08/05/2025
I agree that trying to out-Reform Reform is both hideous and counter-productive, gaining none of their votes and losing those of lefties. But the EU won’t take us back until there’s a clear mandate from the population - they wouldn’t risk another gov coming along and reversing it

Why are people still trusting laws to stop him though? Nothing in his behaviour suggests he has any respect of the law, and he’s discrediting the judges who would hold him to account. And his base LOVES it
