Counterpoint: TVs are cheaper than they've ever been. Cars, which most people need and usually finance, are still selling below pre-pandemic levels.

People can't afford to finance short-term debt anymore. Even if things didn't cost significantly more, and even if housing hadn't climbed at a much higher rate, people still can't afford to finance the short-term debt they rely on to furnish their overpriced homes and eat their expensive eggs.

More of this.
A Twitter exchange. Senator L. Louise Lucas responding to Senator Ted Cruz on Feb 6th. Ted wrote: "A brazen abuse of power & an insult to democracy. 47% of Virginia voted Trump. They will now get just 9% of the seats..."

Senator Lucas quote responded, "You all started it and we fucking finished it."

A Twitter user, Jim McGuire (@jimcmcguire) responds, "You're a senator. Work on your vocabulary." To which Senator Lucas responds, "I have learned that being politically correct is lost on haters so I speak the language that they understand."

The irony of the NRA recognizing when the administration is entirely against their values, when evangelicals won't recognize the same thing for their values.
FA US Attorney posts, "If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you. Don't do it!"

And the NRA quoting them, responding, "This sentiment from the First Assistant US Attorney for the Central District of California is dangerous and wrong. Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens."

ChatGPT’s tone and language patterns are determined by a mix of **contextual inference**, **user cues**, and **model-level defaults**. Here’s how that works in layers:

---

### 🧠 1. **Default personality and training**

ChatGPT is trained on a large dataset of human text (books, articles, conversations) and then *fine-tuned* by humans to follow instructions in a helpful, polite, and neutral tone by default.

* This creates a “base personality” that’s friendly, professional, and adaptable.
* It defaults to plain, accessible English unless told otherwise.

---

### 💬 2. **Context-driven adjustment**

Each time you send a message, ChatGPT infers:

* **Formality level**: If you use academic phrasing, it mirrors that. If you type casually (“hey, what’s up?”), it replies more informally.
* **Purpose**: A business proposal triggers a formal, concise tone; a creative writing prompt triggers more stylistic or emotive language.
* **Emotional cues**: If you sound frustrated, the model tends to become more empathetic or gentle in response.

---

### 🧩 3. **User history and memory (when enabled)**

If memory is on (or in a long conversation), ChatGPT gradually aligns with your preferences — for instance:

* Using consistent terminology or tone (e.g., always concise, or always detailed).
* Reflecting your communication style (more analytical, playful, poetic, etc.).

---

### 🧭 4. **Instruction-following overrides**

Explicit instructions always take precedence. If you say:

* “Explain this like I’m five.” → it simplifies language.
* “Use a sarcastic tone.” → it adopts sarcasm.
* “Write this as if for a legal brief.” → it becomes formal and structured.

The model doesn’t “feel” tone — it recognizes linguistic patterns statistically associated with certain tones and reproduces them accordingly.

---

### ⚙️ 5. **Safety and calibration layers**

There are guardrails that keep the tone:

* **Respectful and nonjudgmental**, even in disagreement.
* **Non-inflammatory**, avoidin…

In the end, the bots will spend all of our water being racist to each other online. The last era of humanity will be known as the Powdered Milkshake Bot Period.
From Ground News -
Headline: The Internet Will Be More Dead Than Alive Within 3 Years, Trend Shows

• In May 2025, data firm NewGuard identified over 1,000 web news outlets that are predominantly operated by automated bots, with many spreading false or misleading information about the conflict in Ukraine.
• The rise of autonomous algorithmic ranking systems and widespread use of large language models like ChatGPT have fueled the growth of Al-generated content online.
•Reports show bots constituted 42.3% of internet traffic in 2021, rose to over 51% by 2024, and ads for major brands often target these automated accounts, wasting advertiser funds.
•Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAl, wrote on X that although he was initially skeptical about the dead internet theory, he now observes that a significant number of Twitter accounts are actually operated by large language model-based bots.
•This trend suggests the internet is
increasingly dominated by bots, posing challenges for content authenticity, user trust, and the future viability of
human-generated digital content.

I like everything but the Lucifer/1980's headbanger color scheme here, which is killing those beautiful floors.
Red couch leather couch with black walls is killing me in this pic, which also features a gorgeous wide-plank wood floor with varying shades of light & dark stain, a thin-striped black and white fringed throw rug, and an arty, curvy horizontal gray and (looks like) royal blue shelf, and some very large picture of a hilly snow scene, possibly. All set against a cool, huge, inverted-triangle window.

But the red and black is giving 1980's teenager dude-vibes and it's wrecking the whole thing. Sad!

I hate when people put out those greatest hits albums.
Just a bunch of words that Trump always says, put into a salad spinner and then spit out via random capitalization generator. It's too long, and I'm doing you a favor by not adding them in alt-text. If you want the full effect, hit yourself in the head with a lead pipe three times, throw a cocktail of ivermectin and bleach over yourself, then lie in an alley behind a pizza restaurant.

See, this is the kind of character action that makes sense to me.
"I think, therefore I am wrong, after which I speak, and my wrongness falls on someone also thinking wrongly, and then there are two of us thinking wrongly, and, being human, we can't bear to think without taking action, which, having been taken, makes things worse."

I got this text today, and I thought, "WOW, it's weird to raise money by telling everyone that you're super gullible." Anyone who still thinks they have friends across the aisle at this point should be primaried. We seem to all be Charlie Brown here, and the GOP is Lucy with a football.
Screen shot of this text, with the last sentence highlighted.

"It’s Mark Warner. Yesterday, I left the Senate floor after a 27-hour vote-a-rama. Republicans passed Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill by only one vote.

Let me be clear: This tax scam will gut our social safety net, kick millions off their health insurance and raise prices for hardworking Americans – and for what? To give tax breaks to the very wealthiest in our country.

If you’re as pissed off as I am at Senate Republicans, please join me in the fight to flip the Senate with a donation right now:

https://warnerforsenate.co/hMXBbl

Even my Republican colleagues know this bill is a political albatross.

I’m sick and tired of my friends across the aisle saying one thing to me in private then voting another way – all because they don’t have the spine to stand up to Donald Trump."

I grew up very Catholic, and was quite devout at one point, that point being decades in my past. I'm feeling very excited today, though, which tells you about the *cultural* pull of Catholicism. Also, I will never, ever, ever stop loving Catholic ritual.
I don't know what these soldiers are called. This is several rows of the backs of what look like Vatican...navy? Men in white flat-top caps, navy uniforms what royal blue cloth draped about 7 inches over their shoulders (I'm sure it's called something specific) with a white border and a star in each of the two corners. They have rifles, in case this get out of hand, I'm assuming. Two rows of men in the Vatican Flute Corps, possibly? Black uniforms with bright red, wide stripes down the sides of their legs, jackets adorned with two vertical rows of shiny silver buttons, and each man has a white sash across their chest, possibly securing something on their backs? The wondrous caps, coming to wide points on either side of their heads, have giant fluffy feathers, red on the bottom, white on top. All are poised with flutes at their lips. A side view of the flute corps, being conducted by a man dressed similarly as the others, but with white gloves and white cords draped on his right shoulder. A Swiss Guard, though this one dressed in what looks like a burgundy velvet uniform, with a silver helmet and burgundy feathers (?) fanned atop it from front to back, marching purposely with a sword across the square.

This is a Twitter conversation I remember from 2016, when the app had an unfortunate run where all the photo previews were cropped like this.
Picture of a tweet that says:
"I'm chatting with @CohenDS about the #ForeheadsOfTwitter"

It features a photo of Peter Mayhew that's cropped out half his face, so his eyes look like they're sadly peeking over the edge of the photo. The text reads, "For only the price of a cup of coffee a day, you can sponsor Peter Mayhew and hundreds of actors who are waiting in no-kill shelters. Look into his eyes. Won't you help?"

Why? To end any confusion created by the court's injunction.
