Yes gorgeous! I loved the old Yugoslavia and managed to see northern Italy on the same trip. Hope we get to travel in Europe again more easily before too long!

We had a Hillman Minx with a hole in the floor at the front which enabled us to not only see the road but smell the exhaust fumes as well!

Can you tell me where I’m likely to find out if there are log books for the school? My 2x ggm & my gt. grandmother were schoolmistresses there as well.

I’m not sure how much information there is out there for the school - I will have to look into it. I do have newspaper cuttings about my gggf’s retirement and a photo of him.

Thanks - yes I have several times with 3 of the places, Willand in Devon, Portreath, Cornwall & Caldbeck, Cumbria. Unfortunately I’m not able to get around too much now…. Oh and there’s also Caerwys & Ysceifiog in Wales. But maybe I should start small and try Adlington Village National School.

Thanks Liz - I’ll certainly do that. I’m now thinking that maybe I should start off small. My 2x gt gf was the National Schoolmaster of the village school in Adlington, Cheshire, where a lot of my ancestors came from. Perhaps it would be possible to do an #OPS of the school? What do you think?

Me too and hers were delicious! I never understood why he worked there either and sadly he died at the age of 51 due to complications after being knocked off his ladder by a patient.

I would have been a painter & decorator at a local mental institution, a shirt maker, a bank employee or a housewife (although before marriage my grandmother was a baker & confectioner in the family business - her speciality was a vanilla slice 😋 ).

I’d love my sister to take a DNA test but she isn’t interested! My husband, daughter, son in law, grandson & granddaughter have all taken tests and to me it’s fascinating. Give me hours of fun looking into it all.

Unfortunately when I received the record, it was literally my name (which they had wrong) dob & the dates admitted and discharged. I was told that was all the records there were - who knows! I will take a look at your search guide - thank you.

It was 1957. A good few years ago I found a reference to ‘Nursing Reports’ for the hospital I was in but they were only available to look at in-house (I think it was the National Archives, not sure) I couldn’t make it there. Then I discovered they’d been moved to local archives which I applied for.
