Rosie Jimenez had Medicaid that wouldn't cover abortion care and she could not afford it out of pocket. She sought unsafe abortion care and later died in a hospital due to complications. Abortion bans are dangerous to pregnant people.

Her family is now suing the state of TX, arguing that TX abortion bans should be struck down. This is the first lawsuit over a death from an abortion ban and it is one of several current lawsuits that challenge abortion restrictions by arguing that pregnant people have a right to life and liberty.

Pregnancy is far more dangerous than having an abortion. A study earlier this year suggests the mortality risk from pregnancy compared to abortion is 3 times higher than previously estimated. There are many people in which pregnancy is dangerous to their health due to existing health conditions.

Some reasons an IUD fails to prevent pregnancy include: ▪️ Falling out ▪️ Moving out of place ▪️ Expiring ▪️ Hasn't yet started to work - it takes 7 days after insertion for the (hormonal) IUD to work to prevent pregnancy

While incredibly rare, there are times when people who have IUDs in place become pregnant. No form of birth control is a 100% effective. If one becomes pregnant while having an IUD -- regardless of the procedure and you want to have an abortion -- the IUD will need to be removed.

Mifepristone in combination with misoprostol is the best standard of care for a miscarriage, aka a spontaneous abortion. Treating miscarriage (and abortion care) is not a partisan act. Doctors should be allowed to be doctors and provide their patients with the best standard of care.

Medication abortion consists of two pills - mifepristone and misoprostol. Right now, mifepristone is under attack. This is not only impacting abortion seekers and abortion providers nationwide, but also ER doctors who are providing miscarriage treatment for their patients.
