Ranger Al and one of his volunteers have been doing some boundary fence repair and maintenance along the Salt Line this week. The trails have many miles of fencing, so there's a lot to maintain. Thanks as always to all our volunteers.

Bollin Valley Partnership Ranger Emma & our friends at Mersey Rivers Trust recently ran a river bank management day at The Carrs, in Wilmslow. Banks of willow, planted to help stop erosion, were pruned & then the resulting whips of willow were either replanted or woven back into the natural fencing.

A few weeks ago contractors were performing their annual meadow cut at a number of our countryside sites. After the wildflowers have set seed and the seeds have dropped to the ground the tractor attachment cuts and collects the grass which is then deposited off the meadow.

A couple of benches are being replaced on Salt Line & Borrow Pit Meadows. Regular site checks are carried out, & when infrastructure items are deemed in need of replacement due to wear & tear / rotten timber, work gets underway. New benches will be installed over autumn & winter.

The latest exhibition, at Tegg's Nose Gallery, is now on show! ‘From the Heart' by Jennie Davies is open from 9am to 4pm, 7 days a week until Wednesday the 16th of September.

Bollin Valley Partnership Ranger Emma and Friends of The Carrs recently ran a meadow management morning. Local scything expert Nikki, joined us and trained people in the correct use of scythes and how to sharpen the blades. The 20 volunteers managed to cut over half of the large wild flower patch.

Ranger Al and volunteer have been doing some path maintenance work on the Borrow Pit Meadows recently. Path edges had slumped a little due to changing ground conditions. So new edge boards and surface materials have been installed.

Public Footpath Poynton No. 44 has reopened! Following reports of a rotten sleeper bridge, the route was inspected & temporarily closed to protect public safety. The Public Rights of Way team, along with the Ranger Service, replaced damaged sleepers & completed repairs. The footpath is now open.

Ranger Al recently spotted a Purple Hairstreak Butterfly, that had come down to drink on some water on a path. These butterflies are typically seen around the foliage, high up in oaks trees. On looking up, there were indeed several fluttering around, suggesting a butterfly colony is active.
