My mum is sadly currently in this position. But now she’s out of hospital, at home with me, & we’ve got an incredible care support to help, she’s stopped talking about wanting to die. She’s just as disabled, but she is happier. I’m not trying to prescribe what others do. But this is our experience

But if they had experienced better support from well funded health and social care for the elderly, and better palliative care for their parents, would many feel differently? For sure, not all would.But we need this to be part of the conversation. I’m going through it right now and it is so so hard.

My mum has been hospital for 4 months and getting staff to call her by her middle name (by which she has ALWAYS been known) is a daily struggle. This poem made water come into my eyes. Thank you for sharing 🙏

Should people of faith be bothered about this? Is this a challenge for #TeamRE to address? I think that good RE encourages students to appreciate and appraise religion. But is our focus too much on the latter? Thoughts welcome 🙏

One Dr today told me she’s normally reticent to talk about religion with colleagues and patients but was really glad to have opportunity today. Is God talk becoming taboo? If so, why? Is religion uncool?

🧵 My mum has now been in hospital for 16 weeks. She’s deeply prayerful person &this has opened up a lot of faith discussions with staff &fellow patients. It’s been really positive; many people have commented that mum’s confident faith has inspired them to be more forthright about their own beliefs…

I read today that, in his final letter to his mother, St Maximilian Kolbe (whose feast is today) wrote, “Pray that I may love without limit”. It really moved me. He clearly learned about the reality of limitless love from his own mum. 🙏
