My next biology and sociology books. Still have "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair to get through first, though.

My next two books (finishing up my biology one now). One is by @victorerikray.bsky.social, who I follow on here. Saw his name when browsing covers all the library and couldn't resist. That's next on my agenda.

Our dwarf frog Crystal passed away over the weekend. She's finally reunited with her buddy Frosty who passed away last year. Our hearts are broken, and it deeply pains me to close the "Frog Dad" chapter of my life. Goodbye, my sweet girl. You were such a good froggo. I'll miss you dearly.

During the State of the Union, Democrats held up quaint little message paddles as a respectful protest. Many of us mocked them while celebrating those that didn't attend or got removed for making good trouble. Jake Tapper, this is your and your industry's paddle moment. And for this, I mock you.

Sooo....remember the last State of the Union addresses when Democrats held little paddles and we thought they were pathetic, especially compared to those who got hauled out for making good trouble? This is your industry's paddle moment.

It's not by bell hooks, but I recommend the below book as well for people. Finishing it up now; been very educational and inspirational.

My birds have released their first album, "Budgie Lane."
Four budgies all in a row. All boys: One green and yellow (Pepino), one white (Peeps), one blue, white, and black (Cecil), and one blue with a white head (Cirrus).

Decided to try reading 3 books a month--one biology, one sociology, and one "classic" that I was supposed to read in school but faked my way through. These are the three that I've chosen for April.
Book #1: "This Thread of Gold: A Celebration of Black Womanhood"Book #2: "The Great Gatsby"Book #3: "The Butterfly Effect: Insects and the Making of the Modern World"

This is Cirrus. He's the sweetest baby, but between last night and this morning, he ended up injured with a broken blood feather. He lost a lot of blood and is spending the night at the emergency avian vet. They're confident he'll be okay, but if you can keep him in your thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

A little late to the game, but when turkey is still on sale and you want it made your way, you do what you've got to do.
A raw turkey in a pan, stuffed loosely with onion, celery, and fresh herbs. There's a compound butter with fresh poultry herbs and mixed garlic under the beast skin, with it melted and drizzled over the whole bird.

Make sure to cover the breast meat with foil the first couple of hours. It needs to be at 165, whereas the rest needs 180. It's the only way to ensure moist, succulent turkey. Just uncover it that last hour for crispy brown skin.

Huge meat eater here, but eating chicken for dinner in the same room as my birds has given me pause more than once. With the price of beef being $6+/lb, I decided to just try the cheaper plant-based substitute in tonight's chili. Amazing!! Will definitely do this again.

Went to Kuipers' apple orchard today. We've gone and taken a photo together every year since we met in 2014. A bit early in the year, but we wanted to get it out of the way. I only really go for the doughnuts anyway...

Now Peeps seems to be sick. This morning, he was lethargic, fluffed up, sleeping nonstop, and had diarrhea. Not much eating, no chirping...all signs of illness. Vet ran some labs; just waiting on results. Giving him some preemptive meds in the meantime. Hope he gets better soon...

Cecil is doing better. Still watching closely and giving him meds, but he's got energy and enough spunk to fight us at medicine time. Only took two emergency visits and a standard follow-up. Poor baby. Poor bank account...

What a week! Poor Cecil got sick. By the time budgies exhibit signs of illness, it's often too late. Luckily, we were able to get him to an emergency vet and get his crop infections treated. A pricey overnight stay, but he's worth every penny to us. We're just glad he's doing better every day.
