$6 million: that could’ve afforded Forbes Union members over $65,000 in raises apiece. Management may have sacked Randall Lane, but they continue in their opposition to giving us fair wages. Does Forbes management think taking a secret payment is a way for journalists to get a raise?

Forbes Union statement regarding The New York Times’s reporting on Randall Lane:
Forbes Union statement: As you may have read, the New York Times reported that former Forbes EIC Randall Lane accepted $6 million from RJ Shook, a business partner of Forbes, which led to his firing. Randall Lane consistently stood against the Forbes Union during his tenure. The Forbes Union reaffirms our demand for fair raises that we’ve been denied for years while our editor collected millions of dollars in secret payments. We demand management share more details of what they knew, when they knew it, if this is the only secret payment Randall Lane received, and why they refused to disseminate more information to employees.

Solidarity,
Forbes Union

Today, our members distributed fliers outside the Forbes Iconoclast summit to let management know we deserve a fair contract. Four years into bargaining, Forbes is still proposing wages that do not keep up with inflation. Solidarity, Forbes Union

On Sunday, our members placed flyers around Forbes Vice Chairman Mike Perlis’s hometown. Perlis has been absent from bargaining for years, despite our calls for fair wages and workplace protections. Management has no excuses. Forbes employees deserve a fair contract, and we will win one.

The Forbes newsroom voted overwhelmingly to unionize in 2021. We are about to enter 2025 with no contract in sight. As Forbes celebrates young standouts in business today, we reporters simply ask to be paid fairly and treated with respect so we can do our jobs. That’s why I joined in walking out.
