Saw another new build from @mickmakesgames.bsky.social Lovely to see the game finding its way- we're all cheering for him!!

A couple of computer monitors displaying a new build of Contact Protocol, a game about being a communications officer on an interstellar freight ship and sometimes having to arm the piracy countermeasures and probably having a bit of a menty b about it.

The title screen features some classy glowing green monospaced font and some public-domain screens.

Had a lovely opportunity to demo some games at Hypertext '26 conference along with some other current and alumni students from the MA Games Design course at @unioftheartslondon.bsky.social

A large room lined with computers running video games. Almost all the computers are occupied by conference attendees playing the demos. I'm in the foreground with my back turned, wearing some black dungarees that were perhaps a bit too casual for the setting.

I get what they’re trying to do, and I see the comparison with eg sale of alcohol or entry to a bar. I’d argue that this approach is like solving that problem by asking everyone to show their ID to leave their front door, rather than having proper, enforceable licensing laws.

I completely agree, but to be clear this announcement isn’t attempting to touch any of that. In fact, what I took from Starmer’s speech is that rather than trying to intervene, we’re just going to make you show your ID to prove you’re old enough to deal with it. For the sake of “innovation”.
