Tillis feigning knowing better and going this path is everything. He could firmly say "there's no route for the old Congress to reject the new Congress" but here we are. Banking on Johnson's integrity is wild if you were alive to see why he was chosen and what he's done since.

The next administration needs to clearly define what successful immigration looks like: 1) Legal 2) Peaceful 3) Orderly 4) Self-sufficient And just implement that system. If Republicans stop it, then the chaos will be on them. But it's the system most people want to see.

If the American people actually knew what "coming in the right way" from a country in Latin America entailed they would be appalled. We have a system that forces our most likely immigrants to either come in the wrong way or use a broken asylum system. And either path is deadly and fraudulent.

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

Justice Samuel Alito discussed his opinion in the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the leaked draft and its aftermath, same-sex marriage rights and why he's not retiring yet.

Hegseth must be impeached. He's already lost a war of choice to Iran that greatly increased their regional leverage. That loss diminishes our standing in the region for who knows how long, and that is lesser part of the damage he's inflicted on our military readiness. Worse, he thinks he's winning.

All those previous things built durable infrastructure that created benefits even if lots of the financers didn't survive the bubble. With this we're left with......a glut of GPUs on a shelf somewhere? (Billions of $ of these GPUs are collecting dust even if they've been announced...)

This has always been true and the language seems designed to fool people. Self-replicating worms hacked the internet and ran wild many times yet nobody ever blamed the worm! That's probably because nobody thought to use anthropomorphizing language to describe what was happening.

I agree. A driver who reads from the backseat is liable for a crash while using Tesla Full Self Driving even though the name implies that should be possible. The employees and company who launched these software programs are at fault, not the software programs.

I keep getting into it with my non-techie friends because this terminology is having exactly the intended effect. I was glad to see AP stylebook explain the AP's approach which I really wish others would adopt.
Screenshot of a post by AP Stylebook that reads "Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it."

Seems the best they could do is a windfall profit tax with the revenue targeted to give $ to people impacted by the prices. You could even target transportation and farming. But these people have never thought a thing through and that's why we're here anyway. It's like asking a dog to meow.

Honestly this is the way "AI is going to kill us." Dweebs overconfident in some technology and therefore allowing it to take over, with no guardrails, some critical function. Like a Tesla driver using FSD while reading in the backseat.

Congress passed Civil Rights laws during Reconstruction that SCOTUS promptly gutted. The Warren court was a short exception in a long history, and even then real civil rights reform came from legislation. Brown was decided in 1954. My mother graduated from a segregated high school in the early 60s.

It is absolutely fair to push for transparency on data center deals. I've worked in IT and the goal of folks who operate data centers is lights-out operations, meaning not many folks required to run them. If the deals were transparently good for communities, why the secrecy?

Colleton County SC (58% Trump in 2024) pushed back hard against a proposed datacenter, even getting the county council to enact a six-month data center moratorium. It seems council is still trying to grease the wheels a bit, but opposition is far from partisan. www.postandcourier.com/rising-water...

I think it was Calais that finally sent Clyburn. I've had lots of bones to pick with him in the last few years, but he does seem to understand that signaling to the court that Congress will act has measurable impacts. The court is inherently weak, and once the real ones mount up it's game over.

Great piece. I know a lot of people think Biden's biggest mistake was Garland, but frankly 45 faced charges, in plenty of time, that SCOTUS of course scuttled. Biden's biggest mistake was signaling immediately on taking office that SCOTUS wasn't a massive glaring problem that needed confronting.

Yeah I was being sarcastic. But I still think my larger point is Axelrod gets TV time because 1) he was on Obama's 2008 campaign and 2) he predictably criticizes young Democrats. Among a certain set, he gets"credibility" for 2 because of 1.

Make the court a court again by expanding it enough so no justice is famous, implementing panels/en banc, and eliminate cert so they can't pick and choose their pet policy cases from the pipeline. With enough justices and panels, they can handle the load.
040
crossery @cdg864.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Expansion is necessary, but not sufficient. The court should be restructured. The biggest problem is that FedSoc has engineered a predictable panel and paired it with a 5th Cir pipeline of bs. They can bring *any* case in the 5th and tee it up for the MAGA panel at SCOTUS.

She won't get over the L (any election loss is deeply personal) but if he needs her she will be there. But frankly James T has been putting the work in himself and doing a great job. She's likely to have a much bigger impact on smaller, less well-covered races.

Congress even gave SCOTUS the power to choose its own docket. Before 1891, SCOTUS simply had to hear all appeals. Congress relieved them of that obligation, and gave them even more flexibility in 1925. What a privilege for the MAGA 6 to pick the cases where they can shape history.
