Well, Jiminy Cricket, It's a Chipmunk eating a grasshopper!

A chipmunk sits on a log, chewing on a grasshopper. One wing and a red leg is visible close to "Chippy's" mouth. The rest of the grasshopper appears to be tucked into the Chipmunk's pouch.

The Red Crossbill has upper and lower mandibles with large hooks for opening cones. They range in colour from red to orange to olive/yellow.

A Nelson's Sparrow is a bird I hear at times but (almost) never see. I finally got to photograph one in Sunpoke, #NewBrunswick It disappeared almost as fast as I could hit the shutter button.

Found this Eastern Woodland Jumping Mouse "hopping" along the trail. It is built like a kangaroo with long back legs and a very long tail (longer than its body). Sunpoke, #NewBrunswick #nature #mouse #wildlife

This is a cute picture but you can only see the tips of the toes on his size 13s and its long tail trailing off into the background.

Not sure what flavour of sea creature this Great Blue #Heron found in the saltwater marsh. Lost it's grip likely trying to kill its prey. Great Blue Heron, Saint John, #NewBrunswick #birds

The heron's head is twisting such that you can see both eyes looking toward you, hazy as its nictitating membrane is closed shielding the eyes. It's wormlike prey is about to land back in the pool.

If you look closely at the beak you'll see the lower mandible protrudes. Usually the upper mandible has a point, almost toothlike, hanging over the lower jaw.

A Broad-winged Hawk flew in front of a fast moving truck. A ball of feathers flew over the truck. The ball of feathers was a White-throated Sparrow which, I guess, the hawk dropped trying to escape hitting the truck. The hawk perched, watching the limp sparrow. Ludlow, #NewBrunswick #birds #hawk

The hawk, unscathed by its close encounter, sat watching the highway for a chance to pick up its meal.
