To sum it all up? Flu continues to defy seasonal norms and is continuing to rise. Children's hospital is recommending now as the time to get your flu vaccine. COVID has dipped after a short fall rise, let's hope that continues!

The COVID median and average dip. However, 5 utilities are at a "high" level: Aspen, Fort Collins, Metro PRC, Montrose, and Silverthorne/Dillon. Half of the utilities (11) are rising, half are dropping. EV-68 remains very high.

CDPHE expands their wastewater surveillance, adding sites in Montrose and Silverthorne/Dillon. They also combine reports from Colorado Springs due to construction. My "level" calculations for these 3 utilities will be a bit wonky until we have more data from them .

Children's Hospital Colorado is reporting a very early start to flu season and states now is the time to get your annual flu vaccine. Last year was ALSO an early flu season, but positive specimens did not reach this level until the week ending 11/2/25.

Hospital Admissions (comparing to initial #s for last week) Covid: 32, down from 34 last week Flu: 46, up from 36 RSV: 2, down from 3 A reminder that weeks including a state Holiday (like Cabrini Day, 10/1) see larger data lags and these numbers are likely to climb.

COVID, Flu & RSV in Colorado update, 10/7/26 *Holiday Week Bad news on Flu continues. COVID indicators including wastewater drop slightly, remaining elevated. Flu positivity & hospitalizations continue to rise VERY EARLY! *Holiday weeks subject to data delays

To sum it all up? Covid is up. Flu is here, 1 to 2 months ahead of schedule. Fortunately, flu & covid vaccines (even for kids) are now available around the state. I've gotten my COVID shot & will get my flu shot ASAP. Ramp up protections (masks, air filters) to avoid illness!

The wastewater picture continues to look grim. COVID in wastewater remains elevated, at levels we experienced in last winter's COVID surge. Most utilities are "Rising". 3 Utilities are now High (Aspen, Fort Collins, & Metro PRC). Most are Moderate. EV-68 remains high.

This chart shows the start of flu season for the past 6 years. We had as many flu hospitalizations last week as we did in the following weeks: Week ending - Hospitalizations 12/11/21 - 32 11/5/22 - 41 11/4/23 - 34 11/30/24 - 31 11/8/25 - 44 We are 1-2 months AHEAD of "normal"

COVID, Flu & RSV in Colorado update, 9/30/26 Bad news on Flu before the official start of flu season tomorrow. COVID indicators stall, remaining elevated, but not rising. Flu positivity & hospitalizations are up VERY early. Flu indicators are months ahead of normal!

No. Winter 2025 was a low wave for us. Utterly dwarfed by flu.

CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
To sum it all up: COVID is now at Winter 2025 levels. Flu is showing signs of an early rise. EV-68 may explain non COVID, non-Flu respiratory illnesses. Flu and COVID vaccines are now widely available. Please consider all precautions to avoid spreading illness!

Last year's flu season was unusually early. And yet we seem to be ahead of its rise in hospital admissions, positivity, and ED visits by a solid month. It may be a blip, but it's now a blip that's been sustained for 3 weeks. Keep an eye on this space.

CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
There is no Flu or RSV being detected yet in Wastewater, but Flu data is concerning. We are seeing levels of Flu hospitalizations, positivity, and ED visits not seen in the last two years until late October. It's not "high", but it is rising well ahead of our normal schedule.

EV-68 is an enterovirus that usually causes a mild cold in most adults. It can be severe in infants or cause long-term issues. The main reason I mention it is because if you're a little under the weather, it is not necessarily COVID, as EV-68 is circulating at very high levels.
230
CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
The average COVID level is now about 25k, similar to the peak last winter (when COVID was competing with Flu and RSV). It is lower than the August 2025 peak (which peaked at 68k, But it is higher than it has been all of 2026. It's not the only thing circulating though.

The wastewater picture looks worse than it has in months. The COVID Median and Average are higher than they have been since late January. All utilities (except Aurora) are "Rising". 3 Utilities are now High (Aspen, Durango, & Metro CC). Most are now Moderate.

Hospital Admissions (comparing to initial #s for last week) Covid: 40, up from 23 last week Flu: 13, up from 12 RSV: 1, up from 0 The flu hospitalizations remaining elevated is concerning. Something strange is going on with Flu. (more on this later)

COVID in Colorado update, 9/23/26 A complex report today. All COVID indicators rise, with a major uptick in wastewater. Hospitalizations & positivity tick up slightly. Flu positivity & hospitalizations are up VERY early. And EV-68 in wastewater remains elevated.

Lastly, an out of state resident exposed Coloradans to measles at multiple locations in greater Boulder late last week. Please be aware that measles symptoms present like other respiratory infections in the early days of infection. Mask up to prevent spread OR avoid exposure!

It is worth noting that the average level of EV-68 in the state is higher than it was at any point last year. EV-68 is a virus that presents as a mild cold, but may cause the serious condition Acute Flaccid Myelitis (loss of muscle tone & reflexes) in kids after infection.

We got a lot of wastewater data, and the news on COVID isnt great. It looks like the surge in other parts of the US has begun here. 7 Utilities are now "Moderate": Alamosa, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Highlands Ranch, Metro NTP, and Breckenridge. 13 of 21 are rising.

COVID in Colorado update, 9/16/26 COVID indicators rise, with a big change in wastewater after months where there were only sporadic detections. Hospitalizations & positivity tick up slightly. Flu ticks up. EV-68 in wastewater is higher than the last 2 years.

This is a misleading photo/headline. The rafting occurs MILES upstream of the leak, and is not affected by the leak at all. Its a problem downstream, where the water is used for irrigation. Please don’t hurt the rafting industry.

COVID Wastewater dips, with 12 of 21 utilities "Low", and 8 with no detections for the last 21 days. Highlands Ranch is "Moderate" & Rising. The average has dipped since last week, but it is partial data and utilities with higher medians arent represented.

This may look very different from CDPHE's trends, which shows 9 utilities "Increasing". Of the 9 "increasing" utilities, 5 do not meet the definitions CDPHE for the assigned trends. Their trend assigning process remains broken and gives a false impression of the level of risk.

By comparison: this is what Durango looks like compared to the last year: recent data points shows it has switched to “high”. But overall, the state is “low” but moving towards higher levels.
010
CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
But recent data points shows a rising slope. So, Covid in this area has been rising in the last 21 days. But still is well below levels that would consider it Moderate or high. And that’s true for all utilities except HR, Durango, GJ, Alamosa, and Telluride.
110
CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
A few utilities have spiked, that why i have categorized them as “High”, but others have reported some recent covid detections, but they’re still “low” compared to the winter or summer peak last year. For example, Metro PRC: two recent detections, but very low compared to the winter & august.

CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
The chart above shows the median wastewater for the last 12 months. The median, ie, the middle point for all samples reported each week, remains as “600” aka, below detectable levels. Generally speaking, statewide, COVID levels are low. /2
110
CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
Because generally speaking, all indicators are incredibly low. We are at record low levels of Covid hospitalizations, and positivity and ed visits for covid are super low. And while the covid WW has ticked up, its up from *incredibly* low levels where it was largely undetected for months. /1

CCSDMaskup @ccsdmaskup.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
