We’re having a week in the Lake District. We arrived after dark yesterday and just woke up to this:

A Certain Ratio (@acertainratio.bsky.social) ripping up the Exchange in Bristol tonight playing the Sextet and Force albums in full. Highly recommended if this tour is coming your way. Good to see Jez apparently healthier than he was last time. #MDANT night out with @timburrows19.bsky.social

Dermatologist recommended minor surgery for a non-urgent biopsy today. I braced myself for the 16-18 week wait that’s been widely discussed and she said “Can you wait 20 minutes? We have an opening at 11:30”. They got me in at 11:25 and I was all done by 12:15. Support & celebrate your NHS!

Next up in You Must Gee Them All 2026: Fall Heads Roll I had lost touch with The Fall for a while and reconnected about this time so this one has a soft spot for me - mostly driven by the reassurance that they were still a force to be reckoned with.
Fall Heads Roll LP spinning on deckScreen grab of a collection of photos starting with Steve Pringle’s You Must Get Them All book cover then 28 albums, CDs and a cassette of The Fall albums in chronological order.

Planning to finish by year end.

@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social I’m reading 21st Century Yokel and your piece about naming a housing development after what was destroyed in order to build said development. I thought you might enjoy this refreshingly blunt one near us in Gloucestershire.
Generic red brick housing development called “The Old Garden Centre, Staunton”.

This was indeed an old garden centre, a family-run independent that was a pleasure to visit but did not survive the Covid era.

Ah, memories.
Facebook memory showing a visit to Limerick in 2017.

I came here for better or worse, Decided to write me a verse.
But words rhyming with "Colin"
Are not very common -
It's not just a blessing; a curse.

Agreed. This new one is very much up to the standard set by its predecessors.

First time trying @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social on audiobook. Also my first of his non-fiction. He still draws you into his magical world, even if his accent wasn’t what I expected.

Don’t that forget your local library often has titles that you might not expect.

Joe Jackson at Bristol Beacon tonight. My sixth or seventh time seeing him over almost 50 years and always a treat. High calibre band too including his stalwart bassist, Graham Maby.

I just replaced this old bird box that’s been up and undisturbed since at least 2019 when we moved here. This thing had archeological levels of historical strata in it.
A bird box with the roof and side removed. It is about 60% full of old nesting materials. Another angle of the same.

Yes, They had sheets of plywood over the ice but if you stood still for more than a minute you’d feel it. Thankfully the “camping” was in a gym next door with my dad’s old woollen overcoat as a sleeping bag. Hitchhiked from uni at Bradford where New Order played again six weeks later as seen here.
Barney Sumner crouching down with his guitar in atmospheric black and white.

How to get married life off to a good start? Make a record shop visit part of your nuptials. I can highly recommend Carnival Records for people of all marital statuses if you’re ever in or near Great Malvern.
Photos show a bride and groom in full outfits posing in a record shop. The Wedding Present’s George Best is notably present.

Love in the Afternoon... vinyl fans Elliot Rouse and his bride Beth (nee Cox) couldn't resist a quick browse at Carnival after their nuptials in Malvern on Saturday.
Elliot, 35, who is in sales, and Beth, 34, who works in marketing, tied the knot at the town's Bar Limon restaurant where they later threw a party for family and friends.
The couple, from Stourport, will honeymoon in Brecon.
Come on everybody, give them some love!

Went to see Wilko - Love & Death tonight. “It’s not a jukebox musical, it’s an illustrated monologue”. Moving performance by Johnson Willis (sic) as Wilko, interspersed with Feelgood’s early hits. Recommended but an odd sound mix with Wilko’s guitar almost lost behind the other instruments.
A band onstage as early-era Dr Feelgood. Johnson Willis as Wilko Johnson, black and red Telecaster and all.

Partially. I boxed these myself in US Banker Boxes, then they were shipped transatlantic by sea and stored six months until we found a permanent home. No damage at all. I included them on the shipping insurance at Discogs median price as part of the overall value of our stuff.
A load of white cardboard boxes.

I’m seeing lots of pics of Siouxsie at the Alexander MacQueen show but how many notice that Amy Taylor is wearing genuine Macqueen tartan, even if it is spelt wrong?
Amy and Siouxsie looking very fancy in the front row by the cat walk. Me, not looking fancy at all but in my kilt which matches Amy’s dress.

"A stonking star turn ... Johnson Willis is magnificent".
Guardian
In 2012, Wilko Johnson, the iconic rock star and founder of legendary Essex band Dr Feelgood, was told he had inoperable cancer and a year to live.
Refusing all treatment, he decided to spend his last months living meaningfully: seeing the people, places and things which meant most to him during his remarkable life.
