The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is one of the oldest newspapers in the country. Now, former staffers say new ownership has gutted the newsroom and purged former strikers. @maximillianalvarez.bsky.social asks, "What happens when a city loses the journalists who know it best?"

Incredibly moving. 1000s of Lithuanians lined the streets of the capital Vilnius yesterday to honor the four US soldiers killed on their soil. As their bodies are repatriated to the US, their President will be nowhere to be seen, except on a Florida golf course. (📸 Gedinimas Varvuolis)
An American flag flies above a street in Vilnius as police outriders surround hearses transporting the bodies of the US servicemen. 100s of locals are seen lining the street.

And this, folks, is why I do NOT support policy-based solutions to the local news crisis. When one party eagerly shreds the Constitution to impose its will, government cannot be trusted with funding of a free press.

Kerri ni Dochartaigh, a featured speaker for Ohio University’s Spring Literary Festival, was denied entry to the United States. Given OU’s pre-emptive compliance with anti-DEI measures, I’m guessing they’ll roll over on this, too.

The Trump administration is setting the stage to put the unitary executive theory before SCOTUS — which has already issued a ruling (in Trump v. United States) that’s very much aligned with UE. And the GOP Congress seems perfectly happy to cede power to the executive branch.
