At a rest area in SC, I overheard an employee loudly telling a coworker that "he" needs to be impeached, he isn't doing anything, that prices are just getting higher, and that he doesn't care because he can't run again. If he's losing working-class white women in Upstate SC... Just hope she votes.

I remarked to my son that AI voices are using the TikTok cadence. He agreed and called it iambic tiktameter.

Such a good film. Even with a 40-year age difference, an old boyfriend was, understandably, completely smitten with Teresa Wright, in part because of this movie.

I'm gathering my 12th grader's notebooks while he finishes getting ready for school. Me: "Econ, Lit, Gov, Research?" He: "Aw, hell. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." Happy Monday!

In 8th grade a friend accepted monetary pledges to shave his head except for a center strip. He followed through; the pledgers didn't. We then learned a yearbook photo camera had failed weeks before, so his photo was retaken. Anyone falling for FOTUS's new dividend promise, get ready for the buzz.

Maybe he's linking himself so closely to FDR so he can then remind us that FDR was elected four times, and since he, in his own mind, is even more beloved, he merits at least another term.

When I started a new job years ago, a coworker said, "I noticed you eat your 'lunch'" - yes, air quotes - "in your car. You know you can eat inside, in the break room." So I started going to the park for lunch (no air quotes).

In 2004, I voted at the American Legion building at a machine directly beneath a photo of the NYC skyline with ghost images of the Towers or possibly the Tribute in Light. If I'd been older, I'd have reported it. In my red, red state it wouldn't change anything, but it was wrong then and wrong now.

Extraordinary, powerful and heart-wrenching. Active duty Marine Colonel Zach Schmidt, speaking in his personal capacity, about Khalil, an Afghan national whose family helped U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Khalil was deported by the U.S. on Friday to a conflict zone.

My sister started fostering after her last dog passed away and enjoys it. She helps write some of their bios for the adoption website and shows us when one of her fosters is featured on the local news. It's good for the dogs and for her.

Until this thread, I had forgotten that I actually didn't have a backpack in high school and carried everything in my arms. College is where I used the single shoulder strap all day. I just revisited The Breakfast Club, and apparently arm-carrying books wasn't that unusual in HS in 1985. Whew.

'85 grad. Used a locker at lunch. No backpack until college. All classes daily, textbooks, notebooks. My HS senior has never had a locker, has a laptop, 2 textbooks, LOTS of paperwork (won't leave any home), A/B schedule, swaps stuff daily, still 30 pounds of backpack all day, 3 floors. I could not.

I wish hearing adults would listen to an audio of whooping cough in babies and kids before trying avoid vaccinating. I went to YouTube to grab a good link, but the audio gave me a panic attack. Just talked to my 17-year-old about keeping his future kids away from the public for the first 2-3 mos.

Between those super bright headlights and fading "chalk" lines on the road, I won't drive at night unless I have to. I once flashed my lights at an oncoming truck I mistakenly thought had its high beams on. So they proceeded to turn on their true high beams and left them on until they passed me.

Now we older folks need to get our titers done and get boosters too. Imagine getting whooping cough as an older adult after having had COVID, pneumonia, bronchitis, pulmonary edema, whatever. This nonsense won't just hurt kids of antivaxxers. More expense and pain for everyone: babies, kids, adults.

I'm older, but it did ache when my son and I watched over the weekend, and you've put your finger on why. My son told me later that he had looked over at me a few times to see if I was crying. He couldn't see my eyes, but I was. Time gaps, separation, new change now coming - too close to home.

Several years ago I went to my boss's office to ask her a question. She was finishing her lunch. She put down what was left of her sandwich, looked at me, and said, "I'm a grownup. I don't have to eat my crust." I respected her for many things, and this was one of them.

Apparently gold plating over copper doesn't work unless the surface is prepared correctly. The copper will bleed through and a chemical reaction will cause the gold plating to peel. We know how well the surface of the reflecting pool was prepared...

I admire Ossoff's ability to speak in strong, confident, measured tones, seemingly without needing to take a breath. It gives Hegseth no chance to jump in, and the contrast makes Hegseth's stumbling even more apparent.

Distraction while working from home has been strong lately. I used a pomodoro app on Thursday and never shut it off. It's been beeping every 15 to 30 minutes for the last three days, and sometimes I notice.
