Quite by accident, but also understandably, none of the books I have read this year have been written by Americans. Until I read these sly critical fictions of elfland by @endlessbookshelf.bsky.social

Joy Williams on Rilke in the NYRB. She pulls out the most Joy Williams Rilke quotation www.nybooks.com/online/2026/...
Screenshot of this pull quote: "How glorious…to ease oneself into the dog exactly at his center, the place out of which he exists as a dog, that place in him where God would, so to speak, have sat down for a moment when the dog was complete, in order to watch him at his first predicaments and notions and let him know with a nod that he was good."

The summer issue of @northamerreview.bsky.social is here and I am thrilled to have my story "Barbara Blue" out in the world!

Nest found in the library parking lot near the woods. I think it's a house finch's. I think/hope the chicks fledged and everyone moved out before it fell out of the tree

I searched "gold purse" to get images for something I'm writing and I found this purse made out of a cane toad. It costs $490 and your coins come out of its butt
A coin purse made out of an actual cane toad covered in gold. Its eyes are downcast, and you can tell there is a zipper where the toad's butt used to be. The toad's legs have been removed.

Dear Librarian, classify THIS! From my friend Angelo
The title page of a book called "Fuzz Against Smut: The Saga of the Anti-Smut Brigade." One of the book's authors has written an inscription: "Yeah, Librarian Bardoff: What section WOULD you put his in? Enjoy... I mean, dig, in the spirit in which it was intended to be digged. Regards, Angelo Pastormerlo"
