Analysis of #acoustic #rhythms across nearly 100 species reveals a conserved slow tempo centered around 2.7 Hz, within the delta range, suggesting a constraint rooted in conserved #neural mechanisms of #auditory perception @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4ejLRcl

NEW: A lot of bad has happened to American science over the last year but nothing comes even close to what’s about to happen if we don’t speak out in opposition to the OMB rule changes and I hope @aaas-socsci.bsky.social @apsphysics.bsky.social and others will launch public campaigns about this. 🧪🔭⚛️

I wish you'd made it clear that this is a paraphrase, not the literal transcription of what Trump said (some word salad about prosecutors "weaponizing" the law). In an environment of constant far-right lies, the last thing we need is even more misinformation, well-intentioned or not.

We still get SNL jokes out of the current president's behavior. It's only that the jokes are increasingly grim and grotesque, in line with what they are meant to parody.

That sounds unreasonable. For a POC inhabiting the south (e.g. me, and also most Black Americans), could we really be expected to see official disenfranchisement by the federal government as an improvement over de facto disenfranchisement by state governments?

Most of these things were true, or even worse, in 1968: the Cold War, the high point of the Vietnam War, the Nigerian Civil War, and genocidal violence all over the world. From a Black American astronaut's perspective, 1968 was unfathomably more repressive.

Dr. Collier, you have my sympathies. 🗿 My own biology job got scythed down in October (same reason) and I've been floundering about for months now, but at least I don't have to draw circles around cells for 8 hours at a stretch in a software for analyzing 3D microscope images! ... at least, not yet.

Exactly. Young men's grievances, insofar as they differ from women's grievances, are mostly cruel, entitled, and absurd. If the young men's stance is "marry me, or I'll burn this house down with you in it," then it seems like the best option for women is to protect each other, not surrender to them.
