The dungeon grows. 2nd character died quickly in a pit trap after finding an empty room. 3rd character found a lake and waterfall and met a group of friendly bandits who shared more about the parts theyve explored. Lots more secret doors as the different parts collide.

Ironically, she died because of the new procedure for determining if doors are stuck or locked that I blogged about yesterday. Door at the end of the hallway was stuck and repeated failed attempts to open it alerted the wolves and trapped her there.

Character in my solo dungeon crawl died in the 9th room I generated, trapped by a pack of wolves in a hallway and unable to scare them off with fire. Gonna pause to write up my procedures and what happened for the blog and then head back in with a new character. #OSR

Easily one of my top 5 sessions ever when I ran it. The fiction the players get to explore is so weird and confusing, and then mechanically the characters are completely unprepared for what starts to happen to them in a way that elevates the horror.

In TTRPGs, Crush Depth Apparition is primarily on a submarine, but has some coastal and lighthouse stuff in the last act and is solid nautical horror throughout. Well worth a read even if you never run it. In the Heart of the Sea is nonfiction, but absolutely horrific stuff on a wailing voyage

Nothing about I can find searching my PDF of the 1e DMG. Seems like it’s just up to DM discretion. This will obviously be my greatest contribution to the OSR when I make a subtable to bolt into the Appendix A procedures.

Important Update This dungeon finally has 1 door Surprisingly though, Appendix A doesn’t seem to have anything about determining if doors are lock or stuck or anything. Is that a procedure I’m missing from elsewhere in AD&D?
