This made me tear up. Thank you, Hel 💕 I hardly know what to say, because a review of my work like this is everything I could dream of. I aim to be an honest author, both in my writing and how I talk about my career, and it's amazing to know that it's working 😭

Thank you so much for this 💕 GoNaa may be my debut and my oldest baby, but it's by far the most well-loved thing I've ever written and sits in a special place in my heart 💕

REPO IS SO FUN and his role in that movie was so expertly done. His VOICE. In my sadness about Giles, I didn't think of this, so thank you for the reminder. I'm excited to go listen to the playlist again

A story I love about Anthony Stewart Head. Thank you to this person for sharing it on Tumblr. What a mensch.
A photo of Tony Head with a fan, standing in a barn near a horse. Tumblr post from dracofidus: If you EVER think Anthony Head is anything less than an angel then you'd best remember that I have always been a huge fan of his and we've always had a little contact over the years and he heard I'd come out as Trans and was having a hard time and that I was kind of sad that the photos I had from conventions with him were of me with long hair and no binder and they were all signed to "Sarah" and so he invited me to spend the day with him at his farm and he picked me up from the station and we just hung out and had lunch and he insisted on paying and look loads of photos and had them printed on photo paper the same day so he could sign them to Jay, along with other photos of him as Giles and Utger and he literally spent five hours chatting with me and got all the pronoun stuff right every time and then he dropped me off at the station, gave me a massive hug. Waved me through the ticket barrier and insisted I message him when I got home so he knew I was back safe.

My go-to while living in Belgium was "in Canada but basically as close to Europe as you can get" The only time I was met with anything but a blank stare, that person turned out to be from Vancouver 😅

This phishing scam almost got me today because I was distracted and they had my personal details. Seems to be mostly European/UK hotels but an informed citizen is a citizen who keeps their cash www.wired.com/story/hundre...

Brain no braining, energy drink only propping up the body. Every time I get up to do something, I walk two steps, squint, and try to figure out what I got up to do. Tonight is going to be listening to The Caretaker and doing chores, I think 😂

Daily submission limits apply. Thanks for continuing to build your catalog with us. To keep reviews timely and consistent, we limit the number of new titles that can be submitted in a 24-hour period. You’ve reached that limit for today, and you’ll be able to submit again on 2026-05-29 Central Time. By moderating the rate at which you submit new work, you'll be helping us maintain a high standard of review for our vendors and your buyers. Creating or using additional accounts to exceed limits is not permitted and may lead to account termination. If you are adding a large number of previously published titles to Draft2Digital, please contact us to discuss your needs.

So far, all the resource responses have come from the Bluesky replies and no one in Instagram has messaged any words to me, just poll answers. I hope something here will be of use to you while I ponder what I can offer to the world

Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
Thank you for all the recs, I had only heard of one! I'm trying hard to collect a ton for long term resource use! The industry is so wide and varied that I could go my whole career without hearing of a valuable resource, and I do wish there were better ways to get people exactly what they need

I agree, a lot of advice ends up not applying to people, especially when it comes to craft. It's art for a reason. Adapting things is always what serves me best as well

Thank you for your answer, it absolutely helps! I've found author interview podcasts to be so nurturing. I loved No Write Way and I'm working my way through Plot Twist. If you're comfy to share, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Thank you for this, and for your other answers! I really appreciate your insight, especially because you're one of the only people who has answered with a super positive work relationship across three platforms 😅

Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
To be fair, I don't know who I am and am not following across platforms LOL All good! But I'm excited to connect more with you between this and my return to bluesky haha And thank you. I love this job, and I can't let the tough parts wear me down, so I'm trying!

I'm trying to use this year to rehab my relationship with writing and I've been sharing posts about that each week with podcasts and stuff (on insta) because it is such a deep hole to crawl out of. I'm interested to see if others are struggling, and see if I can offer anything valuable
120
Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
Thank you for your answer! You stated personal reasons for your relationship to your career. Without asking for you to share anything too personal, I'm curious if you have particular things that help you maintain that good relationship that others might benefit from? (no is a fine answer too!)

Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
Thank you! (also for the fairies) I'm also ramping up my local events and it's changing how hopeful I am. Social media outreach is so different today than when I debuted in 2021 and in person has become such a breath of fresh air

I think there's a degree of it being natural and a degree of it being "the times" which are both super valid. Not all of my readers followed me away from a more "romantasy" style book and into darker stuff, so there are so many factors. The business is full of potholes to fall in

Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
Thank you for replying! The burnout and jaded feelings are super real. I feel like so many people are feeling that, but I'm trying to make sure I'm not just biased in my little bubble!

And the final open-ended question:
What resources would help you most? Inspirational content? New strategies for growth? Validation? Tips and Tricks? Thank you for your input!

Cat Rector @catrector.com · 28/05/2026
I'm running a poll over on Instagram with a few basic questions for authors. I'm trying to gauge if people are feeling a particular gap the way I am. If you want to toss your answer into the fold, you can find it in my stories for another 11 hours or answer here! www.instagram.com/cat_rector/
Have you been an author for more than 2 years, yes or no?Has your relationship to your author career become more difficult in the last few years, yes or no?Do you feel a lack of resources for continued learning for experienced authors who are still looking to grow? Have you thought about quitting the industry in the last year, yes or no?

And the rest of the post, for the curious readers out there ;)
Art by Evangeline Gallagher. A swirling orange background with yellow hay at the front. A scarecrow in yellow and grey-green is strapped to a post with chains, it's black, void eyes staring blankly into the distance This Too Shall Burn is a bite-sized standalone full of Women’s Wrongs, lying public officials, and creepy forest spirits.
When young Verity begins hearing people’s truths like whispers in her head, she turns to the ostracized witch of the woods for help. But learning the truth isn’t cheap, and sometimes the old must burn to make room for something new.

Featuring endometriosis rep, toppling the patriarchy, an affair with an animal spirit, and hungry glowing eyes in the woods, This Too Shall Burn is available wherever books are sold.A small gallery of the covers in Cat Rectors bibliography

Scarecrows would never hurt you... If you like burning down the patriarchy, tearing apart your enemies, and communing with the spirits of the forest, This Too Shall Burn might be right for you. Sample chapters available on my website, Catrector.com Art by the amazing @egallagher.bsky.social
A blackout text post that reveals a scarecrow in the background, and text that reads

Arden leapt out of the way, narrowly missing being sliced in half by the blade. The scarecrow, the one from the field with the fucked-up eyes. Black mist streamed from its edges, fading into the air like smoke. And its face. Its face was a burlap sack with a drooling fang-filled maw and two black, void-like eyes. It had brought a friend. The scarecrow tossed the villagers across the stone. It followed after, picking up someone in a long, pretty fur coat and sticking their head in its mouth. Its teeth crunched down. They asked for it, she reminded herself. Everyone in the village had asked for it.

I'd be curious about tracking the stores and stock that an author has been working with, especially in the case of commissions. As well, maintaining the relationship with the store over the long run.
