And the rest of the post, for the curious readers out there ;)
Art by Evangeline Gallagher. A swirling orange background with yellow hay at the front. A scarecrow in yellow and grey-green is strapped to a post with chains, it's black, void eyes staring blankly into the distance This Too Shall Burn is a bite-sized standalone full of Women’s Wrongs, lying public officials, and creepy forest spirits.
When young Verity begins hearing people’s truths like whispers in her head, she turns to the ostracized witch of the woods for help. But learning the truth isn’t cheap, and sometimes the old must burn to make room for something new.

Featuring endometriosis rep, toppling the patriarchy, an affair with an animal spirit, and hungry glowing eyes in the woods, This Too Shall Burn is available wherever books are sold.A small gallery of the covers in Cat Rectors bibliography

Scarecrows would never hurt you... If you like burning down the patriarchy, tearing apart your enemies, and communing with the spirits of the forest, This Too Shall Burn might be right for you. Sample chapters available on my website, Catrector.com Art by the amazing @egallagher.bsky.social
A blackout text post that reveals a scarecrow in the background, and text that reads

Arden leapt out of the way, narrowly missing being sliced in half by the blade. The scarecrow, the one from the field with the fucked-up eyes. Black mist streamed from its edges, fading into the air like smoke. And its face. Its face was a burlap sack with a drooling fang-filled maw and two black, void-like eyes. It had brought a friend. The scarecrow tossed the villagers across the stone. It followed after, picking up someone in a long, pretty fur coat and sticking their head in its mouth. Its teeth crunched down. They asked for it, she reminded herself. Everyone in the village had asked for it.

The Goddess of Nothing At All and Coal Gets In Your Veins are both 99 cents right now! I've got so much queer Loki and queer vampire action for readers, and my upcoming book is open for ARC readers! So many bi characters with poly horizons 👀 catrector.carrd.co forms.gle/Rx9Fsa479x9F...
The cover for the queer dark fantasy Norse myth retelling, The Goddess of Nothing At All by Cat Rector. A woman stands holding a wooden bowl, part of her face in shadow. The bowl is covered in glowing runes. The woman whose name is Sigyn, has long brown hair, with one section braided and running over her shoulder. Her skin is light brown. A long gray fur sits on her shoulders, accenting a long sleeved old Norse style dress. The dress is a dark green with silver embroidery around the collar and brown accents in a beaded necklace and belt. Behind her is a snowy landscape and the sky is filled with the northern lights. The art is by Grace Zhu. The first three chapters are available for free at Catrector.com.
The cover to the queer dark fantasy/horror vampire novel, Coal Gets In Your Veins by Cat Rector. Two characters lie on a dark, rocky background dotted by fireflies. The title of the book is in shape red font between them. On the bottom, Spencer looks up at Laurel, who looks down at him. Spencer is an effeminate man with pale skin and short, messy blonde hair and red eyes. He wears a white blouse with the chest open and a web of silver strands of jewellery spans across the opening. Laurel is a woman with long brown hair and brown eyes. She has white skin and wears a dark green t-shirt under black suspenders. The pinprick points of a vampire bite sit on her throat. The art is by scherville.

The cover of Learning to Bleed by Cat Rector, the sequel to Coal Gets In Your Veins. The cover is in the style of a classical painting, with a blush-grey background. In the foreground are two characters locked in a dipping embrace. Spencer, a pale man in a dark blue turtleneck sweater and jeans, with blonde bed-head hair, is holding up another character as she loses control and seems to be falling. His expression is lost and loving as he looks down at her. Laurel is leaning back in his arms, her long brown hair in waves over her back, her face up to the sky as her expression of uncontrolled rage stares upward. Her eyes are red and her mouth is wide open, showing her vampire fangs. A pool of blood soaks into the shoulder of Spencer’s sweater, coming from Laurel’s hand as it hangs above his shoulder. Laurel wears a tank top and red and black plaid. A red mist obscures their legs, making room for the title and author text. The cover artist is Scherville.

#SFFChat Q4: TW for hints of spousal abuse, gore, violence, things in your head trying to make you kill people-- Laurel is fine. I get to play with a lot of fun things in my vampire book that isn't just about vampires but also about sentient generational trauma
Ed stepped into my path, his lips rimmed in soot. One of us, yes, but cooperation mitigated pain. If we didn’t tear each other down, how would the beast feed? “Don’t,” he said. “Just go home, Laurel. Greg only wanted you to stop your nonsense with this guy you’ve been running around with. It doesn’t have to end like this.”
“End like what, Ed?” I took his jaw between my fingers. “Like you finally staying on your side of the fence? Like you gossiping every fucking thing to the neighbours except what my husband was doing to me all those years? Watching Greg through the kitchen windows for a decade, doing what he did, and saying nothing, Ed?”
Good girl, Laurel. Show him an ending he deserves.
I squeezed his jaw until it cracked under my hand. The scream was delicious. It ran a chill down my spine until I was shivering with glee.
The black on his lips oozed from his mouth, making its way to my hand. It was mine. A little more of my birthright, seeping its way under my skin. Becoming part of me.
I let him drop. Let him scream and squeal on the ground.
Not everyone ran, but most did.
Billy, a friend of a cousin I’d once done a repair for, lifted his shotgun from a few metres away and fired a round. It hit me in the shoulder, rocking me back. Static buzzed in my ear. When I looked down, black and red were spilling out of the new hole in my skin.
That fucker.
Kill him, Laurel.
Spill his blood like he spilt yours.
Feed the earth his pain.
I want to feast.
The voice was right. So right.

TW JK Rowling She was *so close* to the point she almost tripped on it (taken from the original tweet)
A clip from the original JK Rowling tweet with the first part underlined. "Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend's assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public - but I have the same right, and I've finally decided to exercise it."

The text beside the cover art is meant to sound panicked and unconvincing, and reads as follows:

Learning to Bleed.

Aka they're both just fine, nothing bad has ever happened to them and nothing ever will, I don't know why you're so worried, just because she's now deeply traumatized and he's responsible for her choices surely won't strain anything or cause any tension. It's a vampire book, all bites are good bites, right? Like what even is there to worry about, it's not like he's going to get in his head about all this responsibility and how he's maybe not prepared for what he's taken on and it's not like she would be hard to manage now or completely dreading every single night and what she might do and how much blood is on her hands. The weight of choices can't be that heavy and the other people around would surely help
them, right? Except how they've left all the people who care about them behind and now they're off in a city where they don't have a lot of help and Laurel is bombarded with new places and things and–

In honour of 69👌 ratings, here's some making out for you Are there any vampire bites in this scene? No, cause Laurel's blood tastes like ashes for some (monstrous) reason, but don't worry, that's later. Can't have a vampire horror romance without some ✨love bites✨ www.catrector.com/coalgetsinyo...
A pinprick of light drew my attention. I turned to look down the hill. In the dead of night, tiny glowing dots were rising out of the grass, one by one. Dozens and dozens. Little stars floating everywhere. A sea of fireflies.
Spencer tipped his head against mine, watching with me.
“It’s beautiful,” I whispered. “Thank you for this.”
Spencer took another drink of the wine, shoved the cork in, and swallowed. “Anything for you.” His fingers found my shoulder, trailing his touch down my bare arm.
Heat rose in my stomach. I turned to kiss him and he met me eagerly, his lips moving in long, deep caresses against mine. I ran my hand down his chest, the silk cool under my fingers. In return, his hand drifted from my waist, up to the side of my breast, his thumb testing the limits of what I would allow. My breath caught, and without giving myself time to back away, I moved to crawl on top of him.
Spencer sat up to meet me, holding my hips in both hands. Kissing me like he couldn’t get enough of the taste. I suggestively licked along his lip and he met that suggestion with abandon, his tongue searching. On my knees, sitting on his lap, I felt his body reacting to mine. Stopping to breathe, I rested my forehead against his. Deliberating.
“I want it all,” Spencer whispered into my mouth, stopping to nip at my bottom lip. “The decision is yours.” He pulled away, watching my eyes as his fingers walked slowly up my left thigh, threatening to creep up my dress.
My mind couldn’t be trusted to let me have him, so I followed my body instead.

#SFFChat Q1 TW for vague discussion of spousal abuse and affairs This snippet is from Coal Gets In Your Veins and is the first 1-on-1 interaction with MJ and Spencer. It's part of a chapter that's really important to me and encompasses a lot of what it's like as a rural queer (locally at least)
I gave her an incredulous look. What an absurd conversation to be having. “And what makes you think that person is me?”
She shrugged. “I dunno. It’s just a feeling.” She waved a hand up and down, indicating my general presence. “You’re different from what’s on offer around here.”
I laughed. “Was it the dancing that gave me away?”
“That and your little jeans.” She reached out to poke a finger in the hole in the fabric on my hip. “If only there’d been people like you around when I was younger.”
“How do you mean?”
She leaned in conspiratorially. “Like knows like, and you’re not exactly subtle. I mean, I feel like you’re trying to be? But you’re not very good at it, ’cause there’s obviously something going on here—” She waved her hand at me. “—but you’re also definitely into Laurel, so the math says bi. I dunno. I suppose we’re all out here, hiding in plain sight. I used to think there was no one but me in this dinky place, but here we are. There aren’t supposed to be any queers around, but I’ve eaten a lot of local pussy.”
I stifled a loud laugh. “Such a presumptuous and vulgar young lady,” I teased.
Mary-Jo shrugged. “It’s nothing worse than what any of them would say.” She pointed at the men perched around the front door. “People just don’t like it when ladies don’t act pretty.”
“Isn’t that the truth.” I reached out to request the joint again and took a long drag, feeling a little more comfortable as the conversation went on. Whatever Mary-Jo was, she was no liar. “So what would you have me do, then? You know Laurel better.”
“How am I supposed to know? I’ve been telling her to leave Greg for a lifetime, but she hasn’t listened to me yet.” Mary-Jo took the last little stub back from me, finished it, tossed it onto the pavement, and ground it down with her heel. “She needs to get out of Dodge, but she’s not going to do that until she’s good and ready. Who knows when that’ll be.” She took a seat on the hood next to me. “I don’t envy you, man. I mean, you do like her, right? I’m not imagining it.”
“Let’s pretend for a moment that I might,” I conceded.
“That probably makes you a sucker for punishment.” Mary-Jo laughed darkly. “If you’re smart, you’d get your heart out of this because there’s no guarantee she’s going to change her mind about Greg. But I’m selfish, and I don’t want to wake up one day to hear what Greg did to her while I was sleeping. He might try to kill you for it, but if Laurel feels something for you, take her and get the fuck out of town.”

After months trying to see a gynocolologist I may actually have an appointment. Perfectly timed as I'm in the middle of a cycle headache and half convinced I get hypoglycemia Anyways buy This Too Shall Burn to support an author who accidentally foresaw her own health issues catrector.carrd.co
The cover to the queer dark fantasy novel This Too Shall Burn by Cat Rector. The background is an autumn forest, in reds and oranges. A witch stands, staring at the reader. Arden is dressed in a long grey dress, embroidered with silver roses. Her hair is long and grey, despite being quite young. She stares intensely at us with grey eyes and full lips as she uses her hands to pull a misty piece of her soul out of her chest. The art is by Grace Zhu. The first three chapters are available for free at Catrector.com.

It may be that it's transferred, but it is still prompting me to do it. But I can't, so hopefully it's a fluke lol

I read ebooks in the dark to help me fall asleep. Often, if I'm unable to get to sleep due to bad body or an anxious brain, I'll read for hours to have the company. Sometimes a book is so well crafted and enjoyable that it's the thing keeping me up. @amweald.com's book is doing exactly that 🤣
A yellow background with a phone screen, a scrap of paper, and some red text. On the phone is the cover for Even If We're Broken by A M Weald, a cover featuring flowers lacing through a bone ribcage. The piece of paper reads "Love, like archaeology, is a lot of trowel and error." The bulletpoints below read "Contemporary Romance, Mental Health, Over-40 MCs"
