It seems people are willing to damn the book without reading it. Nonsense about witchcraft and fantasy. First I felt horror, then anger, and finally I said, “Aw, the hell with it.” It’s great publicity, really.

Lift the backstory out of your novel and turn it into a short story that you submit to a competition (so it has a use!) Summarise your short story in a sentence or two and insert this back in your novel - always LATER than you had it originally. Works for useless scenes/chapters too. #writer ✍️
