Day 1 of #IWC2026Bologna 🌾 I enjoyed hearing about how we can try and make wheat more sustainable and enjoyed meeting old (and new!) friends all connected by a common interest in wheat. Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow....

Exciting start to #IWC2026Bologna, this morning highlighting that optimising wheat crops needs to look beyond the plant, to nutrient cycling, crop rotations, precision planting and more. #research #sustainableagriculture

I saw this minute water lily at Kew Gardens in 2023 but had no idea how narrowly it was brought back from the brink! Image: Nymphaea thermarum next to a larger waterlily #waterlily #conservation #plantstories Full story -> www.kew.org/plants/nymph...

Enjoying #Monogram2026 so far, including talks on how wheat and barley interact with pathogens and the root microbiome, and how understanding these can unlock crop resilience! Thanks to @aabiologists.bsky.social for giving back to the plant science community by coordinating the conference.

I am a scientist. If you're a PhD student, a postdoc, a technician - you are a scientist. Own it 😃. I enjoyed sitting on the panel for this Q&A session, thanks Dana @plantenv.bsky.social for creating a space to talk about skills & research culture #careerdevelopment #phdlife

High fibre white flour developed at Rothamsted passes the taste test - Genetic differences in wheat varieties have been used to develop lines with naturally higher dietary fibre - and bread fans love it! 🍞👍 @uniofreading.bsky.social Full story 👇 www.rothamsted.ac.uk/news/high-fi...

@drchrismacdonald.bsky.social inspiring! Protein & taste as key for diet choice fits with my experiences: At uni, college passed a motion for meat-free Mondays - with backlash on these topics. My PhD on protein content of wheat; people asked "will it help meat-free diets?" #sustainablefood

Women, non-native English speakers & those form low-income countries are disadvantaged in science but by how much? We found that women with non-English first languages from low-income countries publish up to 70% fewer in English than their counterparts. 1/5 doi.org/10.1371/jour... #languagebarriers
Scientific productivity gap based on English-language peer-reviewed papers. Shown are the maximum % differences in the number of peer-reviewed papers published by female native English speakers from a high-income country (-45%), female non-native English speakers from a high-income country (-60%), and female non-native English speakers from a lower-middle income country (-70%), compared to male native English speakers from a high-income country (red flag).
