Some of the plants still producing flowers in our garden... Mostly being enjoyed by Common Carder bumblebees and Hummingbird Hawk moths, but a few hoverflies and wasps, too.

Choosing peat-free compost helps protect peatlands. These precious landscapes can support a multitude of plants and animals, store carbon, reduce flooding, and improve water quality. They need protecting and restoring in a big way. More sustainable swaps: littlegreenspace.org.uk/features/six...

Yup, definitely the heat & extended mild temps in the Autumn. Also the previous winter weather systems influence numbers. Mild, damp winters can create the perfect breeding conditions for certain invertebrates, whereas for others, the same influences can cause numbers to crash.

2...And there's plenty of alternative food for them. Our compost heaps are packed with worms; our no-mow lawns are chocka-block with tasty beetle larvae & we give them nibbles every few days, too. This is the entrance to their cost sett. Badgers are happy & we're happy 🦡🌍🌱🇬🇧🌿

Did u know? Our veg beds have 2 larger-than-life neighbours.A couple of 🦡 live in a sett, yards away from our veg beds.We love them, but we've had to think creatively,to ensure their worm foraging forays don't impact our veg.Voile play-pens encourage them to lk elsewhere in our garden for food.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🦡

Yay! Love folks like you! 🙌 I've got a ramp in my smallest pond & two shallow beach areas in the others for easy access/exit. Doesn't take much effort to keep tiny souls safe, does it.

Did u know? Insects suffer from negative P.R, with headlines like "swarm", or "invasions". When large emergences of insects like White Cabbage Flies happen, don't think of them as an "invasion" - such huge abundances of life are a boon to garden ecosystems by feeding small souls like 🕷️,🐦‍⬛,🪲,🦇,🐸. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍

Did u know? Cattle grids are responsible for imprisoning & killing thousands of small animals every year. The solution is simple - instal escape ramps, to enable tiny lives to liberate themselves. Small acts of kindness can make a huge difference - celebrate the small. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🦔🐸🐀

Support the National Trust by voting for Council members by 11:59pm on 30 October 2026. Quickvote is convenient if you're short of time or worried about inadvertently voting for Restore Trust's Bonigala, Cristea, Goldman, Mealing or Omrani. In our often bad times, the Trust's doing good things.

Did u know? Don't be too hasty to cut down spent flower heads, or hollow twigs in your garden . What looks like, so say, "rubbish" to you, is "home" to someone else. This beautiful Garden Orb spider was using a spent carrot flower as her base. Small animals still deserve our kindness.. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🕷️🕸️🐙

A £276 increase in bills in January would be the final straw for millions across the country. The Prime Minister must turn words into actions and stop bills going up on his watch.
Green graphic image with Hannah Spencer's photo quoting her: 'The Prime Minister must commit to stopping bills rising'. Full quote reads:

“Andy Burnham keeps talking about giving families breathing space. But actions speak louder than words and bills are still going up on his watch when people can’t afford it.

A £276 increase in January would be the final straw for many people in the constituency I represent and for millions across the country.

The Prime Minister must commit now to stopping bills going up in January, starting with moving more costs off energy bills, properly funding a national home insulation scheme, clamping down on rampant profiteering by energy companies, and rapidly scaling up cheaper, cleaner energy.”
