Don’t know off the top of my head, but I’m doing a wide literature review on histories and theories of violence this month for a new article (on 16th century cases) so I’ll tag you in if I find anything.

It’s also often hard to say how domestic violence fits into the picture, e.g. whether patterns of domestic violence followed those of public violence or whether violence sometimes got pushed out of public space and into the home.

There might be useful references in the 18th century article here.

This is why I had no interest in reading/watching Hannibal Rising. Should have stopped at book 3.

I get a regular taste of AI from the Google AI summaries and they’ve completely failed to persuade me that it’s worth trying further. If you want me - a person with some money to spend - to use your product, show me that it works!

In Italian there’s a word ending that does the same job which is “-accio” so palazzaccio = fucking awful palazzo, commonly used to refer to this one:

The good news for critics of AI in the present is that this Pope seems to have fewer young relatives he's trying to set up for life than Clement VII did

No but I can do you a painting:
The Virgin Mary wearing a blue dress with baby Jesus on her lap. They are in an interior with a red cushion to the right, a window in the background and a fireplace back left featuring an andiron and tongs.

Went to get a copy of the 1503 Cantino map and fell down a rabbit hole trying to read its caption for the Strait of Hormuz. I'm pretty sure you can get figs, almonds, alum and horses there, plus some other things I can't make out. Close-up at the link: medea.fc.ul.pt/view/chart/1...

I'm seeing some of this trend in public history as traditional writing and media opportunities get squeezed. The big Fane events but also a lot of mid-list live events and classes.

The £15k postdoc fellowships made a lot more sense for example when there were a fair number of part-time fixed-term jobs around in academia and the fellowships acted as a top-up. But circumstances have changed and a review would be appropriate 2/2

Yes, I mean they could reasonably say that the schemes were launched some years ago in response to specific calls from the discipline, however we do keep them under review and will keep your points in mind as we consider next year‘s criteria. I’m puzzled as to why they haven’t done that tbh 1/2
