So I spun up a sequoia VM in parallels. But no. Because the Mac doesn’t now see the FW it can’t offer it to the VM. So now resurrecting an old iMac to do scanning only. It’s frustrating. Thanks for listening! I should tag Apple here, but I fear there’s no point.

My go to scanner for medium format and 35mm is my amazing Nikon LS8000ED. It’s FireWire only. I’ve been using it with a Mac mini M4 using an Apple usbc to thunderbolt adapter, a thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter and an FW800 to FW400 cable. Worked like a charm. Along comes Tahoe and nothing works.

1st World Problem Alert: I just learned that Apple have dropped support for FireWire in their latest OS Tahoe. I learned the hard way. Connected my scanner to my new Mac mini running Sequoia and all fine. Updated the Mac to Tahoe and nothing. Now I do film photography.

The Johnson government allowed the number of people getting work visas to soar largely to compensate for the fact that EU workers were leaving because of Brexit, which was the policy that Farage arguably did more than anyone else to make happen. But he does not address this point in his article.

I watched the Blue Origin rocket with a sense of sadness. That these rôle models for women & girls were such a triumph of cosmetics over competence. Women have no limits, but this lot managed to make it about hair and makeup. Then I read this Guardian article. What an amazing read.

I can recommend a Kiev 60. Way less reliable than your Pentax until serviced by an expert but afterwards… well ignore me as I’m a fanboy. They are Ukrainian though, so the underdog who never lets up, and punches way beyond its weight.

When we marched against Brexit here on the UK, there was actually about a million people at the march in London. The media showed the fringes and laughed at how few people they said had turned out (a few thousand). It’s heartbreaking but it happens. Power to you guys.

How did Switzerland get such a bum deal? According to the FT chart they’re not such a terrible offender but got some high 30s figure. And what could anyone do about it anyway? Restrict sales to US, or buy loads of yank crap they don’t need? That latter point when applied to poor countries is moot.
