Lastly, my GOAT, Circe, foe to Wonder Woman. She typically is a playfully arrogant and chaotic spellcaster – but she can back up all the shit she talks. Nobody schemes like her.

The Weasel is a wildcard honestly and I’d rather know less about him going in. He has nothing to do with the CC, nor does Dr. Phosphorous. Dr. P has a decently interesting history in the DC universe, but he’s mostly a Batman villain who wields nuclear power

The decision to use Rick Flagg senior is an interesting one. Having a human handler was the move for the classic team, but not for the N52 version - but this is clearly supposed to be a connection to The Suicide Squad Movie. His comic counterpart was in the original Suicide Squad.

This run seems to be the loose inspiration for Gunn’s CC due to the inclusion of Nina and Bride of Frankenstein. But Franky is the main character of this book - more serious, has a thing with Nina, and has a less disgusting relationship with The Bride.

It introduces to the team a black lagoon like scientist (Nina Mazursky) who created the rest of the team based off of Frankenstein’s Experiment. SHADE works for Father Time (someone who is reborn in a new body every new years). They fight supernatural threats.

In 2011 the New 52 Reboot happened. The Creature Commandos are now a modern team under S.H.A.D.E. In this version Morrison’s Frankenstein and Wife are agents of S.H.A.D.E. but Franky is saddled with a new version of the Creature Commando team

This version works for an agency called Super Human Advanced Defense Executive (S.H.A.D.E.) as does his wife, (also she has four arms!) The main book is excellent but I think Franky ends up being its largest impact, appearing in Infinite and Final Crisis.

In 2000 the team was back with an 8 issue series (non canon). It brought Frankenstein, Velcro (now Velcoro), and Griffith into the modern day, replacing Shrieve with Lucius Hunter, J.A.K.E. with J.A.K.E. 2, adding Bog-Man, Aten (Mummy), and Gunner Mackey as a cyborg.

Later in the comic they come across Dr. Myrna Rhodes (a gorgon) and J.A.K.E. (GI Robot) who joins them. The comic revels in its pulpy and lite-horror tone. It kind of straddles the line whether or not it’s campy.

The first creature commandos were created in 1980 by JM DeMatteis, basically Universal Monsters vs. Nazis in WW2. It was a wartime pulp comic. In every issue the CC would fight regular or magic axis threats, be mocked by their officer, but try to be good people anyway

One moment did stick out to me. About losing people. Ow. Yeah. This world has been scary lately. I feel like I have to learn to be ready for this, and I've lost people before. but it seems like it's about to be on a new level.
Jim Hammond and Steve Rogers are at a bar. Jim refering to how shaken everyone in The Ultimates was after they lost Tony says "They're not used to losing people. They aren't ready for it"
Steve says "Then we'll have to get them ready"
Jim says "I wish we didn't"
Steves expression is resolute as if ready to give a motivational speech but he simply says "me too."

Poison Ivy 28 #NCBD Wilson continues to set up future plot threads for the year. It might be jarring that Ivy doesn’t want to take advantage of a pop-up army but I think the fact that she doesn’t want to be used and she wants to be able to live her own life for a bit makes sense. /1

This is from the preview and its just the first page if you’re worried about spoilers, but what an AMAZING first page. It's cool but it also really fits the character and it's paralled later very effectively. This run is going to be fantastic I feel it now.

can we talk about how aside from being one of the all time greats who made batman, green arrow, and the question who he is, denny o’neil is also just a very funny man
Have you grown to hate the word "relevance?"
Yeah, it's not my favorite word anymore.
Seven years ago you said, "Beginning writers in comic books should not try to be creative, they should be commercial."
Yeah, I probably said that.

when it comes to Wonder Woman 2017 I like thinking about Carol Strickland having to hold herself back from screaming at the movie when the twist is revealed
From Carol A Strickland's review of Wonder Woman 2017:
Action sequences, action sequences, falling in love scene, (tastefully) falling into bed scene, action sequences… and that nice bit between Steve and Dr. Poison at the ball, very nuanced. All excellent stuff. Red herring… By this time, it was a little obvious that Prof. Lupin was Ares. Sword utilized and then destroyed. Big reveal:

Diana is a god.

NO!!!! I almost stood up and screamed some four-letter words at the screen.

DIANA IS NOT A GOD!!! That goes against every shred of how her character has been constructed. DIANA DOES NOT HAVE A FATHER!!!

DAMNED PATRIARCHY GOT TO WONDER WOMAN!!!!

No, no, an infinity of times NO!!!!!

I pretty much withdrew into myself at this point. The movie paled despite its attempts to amaze me with SFX. I mean, the movie HAD ME GOING and then they pulled the rug out from under me AND hit me on the head with a heavy skillet. No respect for me as a viewer or fan. No respect for Wonder Woman.

Damned, damned patriarchy.

FOR REAL. And Wonder Woman 2017's use of Etta is so dissapointing. I'm glad she appeared, but she needed far more attention and to be legitimized, but instead we got the knock-off howling commandos and her as a joke. That movie really just needed to be way closer to Legend of Wonder Woman tbh.
