What are you talking about? These look delicious and definitely not at all like festering bowls of slop rotting from within while a moldy eye watches the look of disgust on your face.
Close up on the image with two bowls filled with a red substance and a greenish substance. The surface of each is weirdly spongy. There is what is probably supposed to a leaf on each, but it is black and fuzzy.

On Instagram I was served this AI ad of a product that uses AI to “personalize” books for Spanish learners with a built-in AI powered dictionary. The result is a true slop turducken. @lawrenceschimel.bsky.social you will appreciate this gem! #booksky #translation
Screen grab from ad for
eppika_app

Text from book is shown with a fake AI hand hovering along:
“El primer día en el
Cuadrante de Jinetes fue duro. Violet caminó con miedo pero valentía.”

The word “miedo” is highlighted and then translated as “money.”

Tagline is:
“Learn Spanish by reading bestsellers”
Ends with link saying

Start Now and try something new

Aside from the 5.5 fingers and illegible signs mentioned in the alt text, the teeth of this “woman” are totally going in a completely normal direction, yep, fine angle on those choppers.
Close up on original screen grab highlighting the top row of the woman’s teeth, which seem to tilt in an impossible angle in her mouth.

This is the one that got me. Who wants a digital stalker stealing your identity, thoughts, and data to then imitate you and make decisions on your behalf without your knowledge. WTF
Screenshot from the article that says: “You could be in a desktop app. That could be Apple Notes, that could be Slack, that could be whatever app you're using. It could be every mobile application. We have, for every one of those applications, figured out the right way to observe what you're doing, annotate it in a way that is unobtrusive to you and to the application, and to make changes on your behalf. And doing that everywhere is the proposition.”

How is this not an ad? Axios even recently acknowledged that they’ve been getting pushback on their breathless AI coverage and that they’re just focusing on reporting. Eyes rolling all the way out the door.

Trying to make something sound authentic is admitting it is not authentic, no?
Screenshot of text: Join the Chronicle of Philanthropy for AI Can Turbocharge Your Grant Seeking: Here's How. In this 75-minute webinar, we'll explore how to unlock AI's potential to streamline grant seeking and boost productivity. You'll learn from Josie White, philanthropic officer at Shelter the Homeless, who has integrated AI into grant writing at her nonprofit and built a custom AI tool using ChatGPT.

Saving for future recs, thanks! Finally read this, tricky to read in a second language, though added to the experience (fine line between incomprehension and intentional mystery, spending a lot of time in linguistic darkness, feeling out shadows of words). Next up is Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia.

I couldn’t believe this. I guess they missed ADL’s entry on TPUSA, which has launched many antisemites to fame. Or how he was a prominent promoter of the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, which inspired the worst-ever attack on Jews in the US, or this article last summer!

Subhead: The turnaround for the head of Turning Point USA tells the story of how the Republican Party has united around former President Donald Trump.”

Screenshot from FT article: “There can be no logic-washing of Donald Trump's tariffs. This isn't part of a carefully-designed industrial policy or a cunning strategy to induce compliance among trading partners or a choreographed appearance of chaos to scare other governments into obedience. It's wildly destructive stupidity, and the generations of American, and particularly Republican politicians, who allowed things to slide to this point are collectively to blame.”

Unfortunate search results in the NYT…
Search results for Alice Munro, with top article today talking about how her husband was a pedophile who targeted her daughter and other children, and wondering why she stayed silent. Next article talks about wanting to live like her, that she’s an example to follow (published in May before her daughter’s account).
