This is Eddie, a greek harehound. After seeing a hay bale near the road, he got up there in no time. I guess he knew that he would look really impressive while doing so. Went for muted palette and tried to simplify after watching demos by my favourite artists @edowatercolourart.bsky.social and @chrisstephenart.bsky.social it’s hard but so lucky great artists share their ideas for beginners like me. It’s keeping my aging brain cells firing 😂

I often take a photo of the first watercolour wash I do. I think that’s my best bit of the painting as I then go on and ruin it,putting in too much detail. The great demos by @chrisstephenart.bsky.social and @edowatercolourart.bsky.social always talk about this. So I have made a reminder 😂

Anyway I watched a demo by @chrisstephenart.bsky.social as its hard as a beginner. Learnt great tips for changing stuff around. I tried to get the sense of distance and heathland and wonky paths. For some reason I fixated on the little puddle and made a pond. Hard not to tighten up at the end!

I wanted to paint a polar bear without having a white animal in front of a white background. So I went for really murky waters to make it moody. I love cities and their beautiful sights. But if I'd paint what it looks like walking through a street, I'd have a lot of weird angles and big houses. This time though I practiced to actually paint such a view. It's surprisingly fun to work with a strong diagonal line. #art #watercolor #landscape

When painting nature scenes, sometimes I like a cozy vibe and other times I prefer drama. Here I went for a really rough sea in #gouache. I kept a lot of rough edges and went weird with my color choices, trying to make nature feel overwhelming. #art #traditionalart #landscape #nature #seascape
